Round 515 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we press on, the sound of the Guardian's growling grows louder, its hot breath wafting through the narrow chamber. We can feel the ground shaking beneath our feet, the structural integrity of the tunnel beginning to fail. Suddenly, a loud creak echoes through the air, and the ground gives way beneath us. We find ourselves tumbling down a steep slope, the Guardian mere inches behind. The darkness is absolute, and we're unable to see what's ahead. The only sound is the rushing water and the Guardian's relentless pursuit. My hand finds Varikka's, and I pull her close, my heart racing with fear. "We need to keep moving," I whisper, my voice barely audible over the din. We pick up speed, our feet pounding against the stone as we hurtle towards an unknown fate. The Guardian's hot breath lingers on our heels, its presence suffocating. With each step, the water grows deeper, threatening to sweep us away.
"The water! It's rising so fast, and there's no way out!" Varrika cries out in alarm as the icy floodwaters surge around our ankles. The Guardian's growl is deafening now, its fetid breath scorching my neck. My heart pounds as I wrench the halfling woman to her feet and shove her towards an opening in the crumbling wall.
She limps forward, her face contorted in pain, but there's no time to help her. The chamber is collapsing around us, chunks of stone raining down from the ceiling. "Move, damn it!" I shout, my voice lost in the din of the deluge.
We squeeze through the narrow gap just as the tunnel behind us collapses with a thunderous roar. Clouds of dust and debris billow into the air, choking and blinding us. Varikka coughs violently, her face pale and drawn.
*"I... I can't..." she gasps, sagging against the wall. "My ankle..."
I grab her arm roughly, hauling her back to her feet. "You can and you will," I snarl, my eyes wild with fear. "We're not dying here."
The chamber is dark and musty, the air thick with the stench of decay. But at least we're out of the water and away from the Guardian for the moment. I turn to Varikka, my heart still racing.
"Can you walk?" I ask, my voice tight with urgency. She nods weakly, her teeth gritted in pain. "I... I think so," she whispers. "But not far."
I nod grimly, my eyes scanning the chamber for any sign of an escape route. The walls are lined with ancient, crumbling stone, and the ceiling arches overhead, lost in shadow.
"We need to keep moving," I say, my voice low and urgent. "And we need to find a way out of here before the Guardian finds us again."
Varikka nods, her face set with determination even as pain flashes across her features. "I know," she says, her voice little more than a whisper. "But where do we go? We're trapped in this damn tunnel, and there's no way out."
I shake my head, my heart sinking as I realize the truth of her words. We're running out of options, and time is running out fast.
"There must be something," I say, more to myself than to Varikka. "Some way out of here, some way to escape..."
But even as the words leave my mouth, I know that they're little more than wishful thinking. We're in trouble, and there's no easy way out.
I turn back to Varikka, my eyes meeting hers in the gloom. "We need to keep moving," I say firmly, my hand gripping her arm tightly as I help her to her feet. "And we need to find a way out of here, fast."
Together, we stagger onwards, our hearts racing as we search for any sign of an escape route. The water is rising all around us, and the sound of the Guardian's growl echoes through the tunnel, growing louder by the second.
We're running out of time, and we can't afford to be caught here.
I grip my mace tightly, my knuckles white with tension as I scan the darkness ahead. The sound of rushing water is deafening, echoing off the crumbling walls and drowning out the Guardian's growl.
But it's still there, lurking just beyond the shadows. I can feel its presence, like a weight pressing down on my shoulders.
"We need to keep moving," I say, my voice tight with urgency as I turn to face Varikka. "We can't let it catch up to us."
Varikka nods, her teeth gritted in pain as she struggles to put weight on her injured leg. "I know," she says, her voice little more than a whisper. "But where do we go? We're trapped in this damn tunnel, and there's no way out."
I shake my head, my eyes scanning the chamber for any sign of an escape route. The walls are lined with ancient, crumbling stone, and the ceiling arches overhead, lost in shadow. But there's nothing here that looks like a way out.
And then, as I turn back to Varikka, I hear it - the faint sound of growling echoing through the tunnel behind us, growing louder by the second. The Guardian. It's following us, and it's getting closer.
"We need to keep moving," I say, my voice tight with urgency as I grab Varikka's arm and start to lead her deeper into the chamber. "We can't let it catch up to us."
Varikka nods, her face set with determination even as pain flashes across her features. "I know," she says, her voice little more than a whisper. "But I don't know how much further I can go like this. My ankle..."
She trails off, wincing as she takes a step forward on her injured leg. But there's no time to rest, no time to catch our breath. The Guardian is coming, and we need to find a way out of here before it's too late.
And so we press on, our hearts pounding in our chests as we venture deeper into the unknown, our only hope lying in the darkness ahead.
