Round 512 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I help Varikka up onto the small ledge, her ankle throbs in agony, but she manages a wobbly smile. "Thanks, Merrin," she says, her voice strained from exhaustion and pain. Suddenly, the ledge gives way beneath us, and we tumble down, landing hard on the rocky floor. The impact knocks the wind out of me, and I feel my head spin. As I struggle to catch my breath, I hear Varikka cry out in pain, her ankle twisting at an awkward angle. "Merrin!" she shouts, her voice laced with fear. The ground trembles beneath our feet, and the sound of rushing water grows louder. We're running out of time. Varikka's face contorts in agony as she clutches at her ankle, but she manages to look up at me with a determined gaze. "I think I can make it," she says, her voice barely above a whisper. But just as she's about to move, the ground beneath us gives a final, ominous creak, and the ledge begins to collapse inwards, threatening to swallow us whole. Do you try to grab Varikka and pull her to safety, or do you look for another escape route?
"Varikka, no!" I cry out as the ledge crumbles beneath us. Without hesitation, I lunge forward, my arms outstretched. My hands grasp her shoulders just as she starts to fall, and with a grunt of effort, I manage to pull her towards me.
We tumble together onto the rocky ground, landing in a tangle of limbs. Varikka lets out a cry of pain as her injured ankle twists beneath her, but I don't have time to check on her. The sound of rushing water grows louder by the second, and the ground beneath us trembles ominously.
"We need to keep moving," I pant, struggling to my feet. I reach down to help Varikka up, ignoring the pain in my own body as I haul her to her feet. She leans heavily against me, her face pale with pain and exhaustion.
I glance around frantically, searching for any sign of an exit. The fog swirls around us, obscuring our vision, but I can see that the chamber is gradually filling with water. We're running out of time.
"There!" I point to a narrow tunnel leading off to one side of the chamber. "It's our only chance."
Without waiting for an answer, I start to half-walk, half-crawl towards the tunnel, dragging Varikka along with me. The ground is treacherous, with jagged rocks and slippery algae covering the surface, but we have no choice. We have to keep moving forward, no matter the cost.
As we reach the mouth of the tunnel, I pause for a moment, listening intently. The sound of rushing water echoes through the chamber, growing louder by the second. But there's something else too, a low growl that sends shivers down my spine.
"The Guardian," I whisper, my heart pounding in my chest. "It's getting closer."
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what lies ahead. We may have escaped the rising waters, but our fight is far from over. With a final glance back at the chamber we've left behind, I step into the tunnel, ready to face whatever horrors may await us in the depths of the dungeon.
I pause, my heart pounding in my chest as I listen for any sign of pursuit. The growl of the Guardian echoes through the tunnel, growing louder by the second. We need to keep moving, but Varikka is struggling to keep up.
"Here," I say, reaching into my pack and pulling out a length of rope. "Let me help you."
I quickly tie the rope around her waist, using it to support her weight as we make our way deeper into the tunnel. The air grows colder and damper as we go, and the sound of dripping water echoes off the stone walls.
Suddenly, Varikka cries out in pain, her ankle twisting beneath her. "I can't... I can't go on," she gasps, her face contorted with agony.
"Yes, you can," I say firmly, my hand gripping her arm tightly. "We have to keep moving. There's no other choice."
I glance back over my shoulder, my heart racing as I hear the sound of heavy footsteps echoing through the tunnel. The Guardian is getting closer, and we're running out of time.
With a final burst of strength, I haul Varikka to her feet, and together we stumble onwards into the darkness, our only hope for survival lying in the depths of the dungeon ahead.
"I've got you," I grunt as I pull Varikka closer, helping to support her weight as we stagger down the tunnel. My arms are burning with the effort, but I can't let myself slow down. Not now.
The sound of rushing water echoes off the stone walls, growing louder by the second. Somewhere behind us, the Guardian's growl rumbles like distant thunder, a reminder that danger is always close at hand.
"Just a little further," I pant, my eyes fixed on the tunnel ahead. "There must be somewhere we can rest, catch our breath..."
But even as the words leave my mouth, I know they're a lie. We can't stop, not until we've put as much distance between ourselves and the Guardian as possible. And even then, who knows what other horrors might be lurking in the depths of this dungeon?
I glance back over my shoulder, my heart racing as I see Varikka's face contorted with pain. She's pushing herself to her limits, and I know that if she keeps going like this, it won't be long before she collapses entirely.
"Here," I say, reaching into my pack and pulling out a small vial of glowing liquid. "This might help."
I hold the vial up to Varikka's lips, watching as she swallows the contents with a grimace. For a moment, nothing happens, but then her eyes flutter closed and her breathing grows more steady.
"Thank you," she murmurs, her voice barely above a whisper. "But we can't stay here. We need to keep moving."
I nod, my hand gripping the handle of my mace tightly. The weight of it is reassuring in my hand, a reminder that I'm not defenseless against whatever may lie ahead.
And so we press on, deeper and deeper into the heart of the dungeon, our only hope for survival lying in the unknown depths ahead.
