As we reach for the ledge, the ground beneath us gives a final, ominous creak. We tumble forward, and I catch Varikka by the arm, steadying her as she almost falls. The impact is jarring, but we manage to hold our grip on the ledge. We're now three feet from the edge, with the water lapping at our ankles. The Guardian's roar grows louder, closer. We can feel the ground trembling beneath us, and the sound of rocks shifting in the main chamber echoes through the fog. The ledge is narrow and treacherous, with jagged rocks jutting out in all directions. Varikka's ankle throbs in agony, making every step a painful one. The torches on the wall flicker ominously, casting eerie shadows on the walls. I look around frantically for another way out, but there's none. The fog swirls around us, obscuring our vision, and the water continues to rise, threatening to sweep us away at any moment.

My heart races as I cling to the ledge, the cold water lapping at my boots. Varikka's face is pale with pain, her teeth gritted as she fights to keep her balance. The Guardian's roar echoes through the chamber, growing louder by the second.

"We can't stay here," I hiss, scanning the fog-shrouded walls for any sign of a way out. "The ledge won't hold much longer."

Varikka nods, her hand gripping the rock face tightly. "I know," she pants, "But where do we go? There's no way up, and the water's rising too fast to try and swim."

I grit my teeth, my mind racing as I try to think of a solution. The ledge is narrow and treacherous, with jagged rocks jutting out in all directions. If we try to climb down, we risk slipping and being swept away by the current. But if we stay here, we'll be trapped when the water rises even higher.

"We need to find a way to climb higher," I say, my voice strained as I reach out to steady myself on a nearby rock. "There must be something we can use as a handhold."

Varikka nods, her eyes scanning the wall above us. "I see something," she says, pointing to a small ledge just out of reach. "If we can boost each other up, we might be able to pull ourselves out of this mess."

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for the climb ahead. It's risky, but it's our only chance. "Alright," I say, my hand reaching for the next rock. "Let's do this."

"The ledge!" I shout, pointing to the narrow outcropping just above us. It's a precarious perch, but it's our best chance of staying out of the rising waters. "We need to boost each other up, quick!"

I turn to Varikka, my eyes wide with urgency. "Can you give me a boost? I'll climb up first and then help pull you up."

Varikka nods, her face etched with pain but determined. "Got it," she says, bracing herself against the wall. "On three. One... two... three!"

I spring up as high as I can, my fingers scrabbling for purchase on the ledge. For a moment, I hang suspended in the air, the cold water lapping at my waist. Then my hand finds a grip, and with a grunt of effort, I haul myself up onto the ledge.

"I'm up!" I call down to Varikka, my voice echoing off the stone walls. "Give me your hand, and I'll pull you up."

I reach down, my arm outstretched as I wait for Varikka to make her move. The water is rising fast now, and we don't have much time left. We need to get to higher ground, and quickly, before the Guardian finds us again.
