Round 490 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The chamber shudders violently around Varikka and Merrin, the sound of crumbling stone filling the air as debris rains down from above. The Guardian looms closer, its unblinking gaze fixed on Varikka as it advances across the treacherous ledge. A chunk of stone slabs falls just a few feet away, narrowly missing Varikka's outstretched hand. Varikka's injured ankle throbs in agony as she struggles to maintain her balance, but Merrin's grip on her arm steadies her. The Guardian's metal claws flash in the dim light, mere inches from crushing Varikka's wrist. The water laps at their boots, cold and treacherous, threatening to pull them under at any moment. Varikka grits her teeth, bracing herself against the stone wall as the Guardian lunges forward once more.
I grit my teeth, bracing myself against the stone wall as the chamber shudders around us. The Guardian looms closer, its unblinking gaze fixed on me as it advances across the treacherous ledge. A chunk of stone slabs falls just a few feet away, narrowly missing my outstretched hand. My injured ankle throbs in agony as I struggle to maintain my balance, but Merrin's grip on my arm steadies me.
The Guardian's metal claws flash in the dim light, mere inches from crushing my wrist. The water laps at our boots, cold and treacherous, threatening to pull us under at any moment. Merrin's voice cuts through the chaos, urgent and determined: Varikka, we've got to keep moving. If we stay here, we're dead.
She's right. We can't afford to stop now, not with death closing in from all sides. But even as I prepare to launch myself forward once more, crowbar raised high, I can feel a sense of grim resolve settling over me like a cloak. We've come this far, Merrin and I - fought our way through unimaginable horrors, lost friends and allies along the way. And now, with the Guardian bearing down on us, I find myself more determined than ever to survive.
Come and get us, I snarl, my muscles tensing as I ready myself for another clash with the unnatural creature. Let's see what you've got.
I lunge forward, my dagger slashing out to meet the Guardian's metal claws. The blade catches on the creature's unnatural flesh, sending sparks flying through the air. Varikka is right beside me, her crowbar raised high as she prepares to strike at the Guardian from above.
But even as we fight, I can feel the ledge beneath our feet starting to crumble, the stone shifting ominously with every passing second. The water laps at my boots, cold and treacherous, threatening to pull me under at any moment. I know we can't afford to stay here, not with the Guardian bearing down on us and the chamber collapsing around us.
So I grit my teeth, bracing myself against the stone wall as I ready myself for another clash with the unnatural creature. The Guardian lunges forward once more, its unblinking gaze fixed on Varikka as it advances across the treacherous ledge. But this time, I'm ready for it. With a fierce cry, I launch myself forward, my dagger flashing in the dim light as I aim to strike at the Guardian's unnatural heart.
Let's see what you've got, I snarl, my muscles tensing as I prepare to meet the creature head-on. Come and get us.
