Round 489 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka strikes at the Guardian with her crowbar, the creature stumbles backward, its unnatural hunger momentarily sated. The chamber's structural collapse intensifies, sending a massive stone slab crashing down into the rising waters, mere feet from where Varikka and Merrin stand. The impact sends a plume of water and debris into the air, momentarily blinding the duo. The Guardian quickly recovers, its unblinking gaze fixed on Varikka once more, now closer than ever as it advances toward her across the treacherous ledge.
The chamber shudders violently around us, the sound of crumbling stone filling the air as debris rains down from above. I can see Varikka struggling to maintain her balance on the precarious ledge, her injured ankle threatening to give way at any moment. The Guardian looms over us, its unblinking gaze fixed on Varikka as it advances across the treacherous surface. Varikka! Look out! I cry, lunging forward to grab her arm just as the creature's metal claws flash in the dim light. With a heave, I pull her back from the edge, but the effort sends a searing pain through my own injured ankle. We stagger back, both of us grimacing against the agony that radiates through our bodies. The water laps at our boots, cold and treacherous, threatening to pull us under at any moment. I know we can't afford to stop now, not with death closing in from all sides. Varikka, we've got to keep moving, I gasp, my voice tight with pain and determination. If we stay here, we're dead.
She nods, her grip tightening on the crowbar as she braces herself against the stone wall. The Guardian lunges forward once more, its unnatural hunger fixed on Varikka, now closer than ever as it advances toward her across the treacherous ledge. Come on, I growl, my muscles tensing as I ready myself for another clash with the unnatural creature. Let's see if we can't find a way through.
And with that, I step forward to join Varikka, my weapon raised high as I prepare to meet the Guardian head-on. The water swirls around our feet, cold and treacherous, but I push the fear aside, focusing solely on the battle ahead. We fight our way out or we fall trying, I think to myself, a grim smile spreading across my face. But either way, we're not dying here.
Let's see what you've got, I snarl, my voice echoing through the chamber as the Guardian lunges forward once more.
I grit my teeth, bracing myself against the stone wall as the chamber shudders around us. The Guardian looms closer, its unblinking gaze fixed on me as it advances across the treacherous ledge. I can feel the weight of Merrin's hand on my arm, steadying me as I struggle to maintain my balance on my injured ankle. Varikka, we've got to keep moving, Merrin gasps, her voice tight with pain and determination. If we stay here, we're dead.
She's right. We can't afford to stop now, not with death closing in from all sides. The water laps at our boots, cold and treacherous, threatening to pull us under at any moment. But even as I prepare to launch myself forward once more, crowbar raised high, I can feel a sense of grim resolve settling over me like a cloak. We've come this far, Merrin and I - fought our way through unimaginable horrors, lost friends and allies along the way. And now, with the Guardian bearing down on us, I find myself more determined than ever to survive. Come and get us, I snarl, my muscles tensing as I ready myself for another clash with the unnatural creature. Let's see what you've got.
And with that, I step forward to join Merrin, my weapon held aloft as I prepare to meet the Guardian head-on. The water swirls around our feet, cold and treacherous, but I push the fear aside, focusing solely on the battle ahead. We fight our way out or we fall trying, I think to myself, a fierce grin spreading across my face. But either way, we're not dying here.
