Round 473 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Guardian's clanking grows louder, its metal echoing off the stone walls. As you push forward into the darkness, the tunnel seems to close in around you, the air thickening with the stench of decay and corruption. You can hear the sound of scuttling creatures beneath the water, their beady eyes glowing in the dark. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath Varikka's feet, and she finds herself tumbling through the air, her crowbar flying from her grasp. She lands hard on the wet stone floor, the wind knocked from her lungs, as the Guardian's metal claws close in around her ankles, threatening to drag her down into the depths of the tunnel.
"No! Varikka!" Merrin screams in horror as the ground gives way beneath Varikka's feet. The halfling rogue lunges forward, her crowbar held outstretched, desperately trying to reach her companion. But it's too late. Varikka plummets through the air, her crowbar flying from her grasp, and lands with a sickening thud on the wet stone floor. Merrin's heart constricts as she sees Varikka lying motionless, the Guardian's metal claws closing around her ankles, threatening to drag her into the depths of the tunnel. With a burst of adrenaline, Merrin sprints towards Varikka, her feet splashing through the rising water. She leaps over the crumbling edge of the tunnel, her crowbar poised to strike at the Guardian's outstretched arm. "Let her go, you accursed thing!" she shouts, her voice echoing off the stone walls. The creature's beady eyes gleam in the darkness, its jaws snapping and clattering as it pulls Varikka towards the water's edge. Merrin lands a solid blow with her crowbar, the metal clanging against the Guardian's arm with a resounding crack. The creature recoils, its grip on Varikka's ankles loosening just enough for the warrior woman to pull free. Merrin hauls Varikka to her feet, ignoring the pain in her own muscles as she wraps an arm around her companion's waist. "Can you walk?" she asks breathlessly, her eyes scanning the tunnel for any sign of further danger. Varikka nods grimly, wincing as she puts weight on her injured ankle. "I'll manage," she grunts, gripping her crowbar with white-knuckled intensity. Together, they stagger forward through the darkness, their hearts pounding and their lungs burning from the cold water. The Guardian's clanking grows louder behind them, its metal echoing off the stone walls as it gives chase. But Merrin doesn't look back. She keeps her eyes fixed on the faint glimmer of light ahead, her mind racing as she tries to formulate a plan. They can't keep running like this forever - eventually, the Guardian will catch up to them, and they'll be trapped in this accursed tunnel with no means of escape. "We need to find a way out of here," she pants, her voice strained with exhaustion and fear. "And fast."
Varikka nods, her jaw set in grim determination. "I know a way," she says, pointing towards a narrow passage that branches off from the main tunnel. "It's a risk, but it might be our only chance." Merrin follows Varikka's gaze, her heart sinking as she sees the darkness of the passageway ahead. But what choice do they have? They can't keep running forever, and the Guardian is growing closer with each passing second. With a final surge of strength, Merrin pushes forward into the unknown, her crowbar held high and her eyes fixed on the distant glimmer of light. She knows that danger lurks around every corner in this accursed tower, but she also knows that they have to keep moving if they hope to survive. Together, they stagger through the darkness, their weapons at the ready and their hearts pounding in their chests. They have to keep moving, no matter what horrors await them in the depths of this cursed place.
Varikka's eyes lock onto the narrow opening in the tunnel wall, her gaze filled with both hope and trepidation. She hauls herself up on the rock's edge, wincing as she puts weight on her injured ankle. Merrin's voice is strained with exhaustion as she urges Varikka onward, but the dwarf warrior's attention is fixed solely on the path ahead. As they move towards the opening, the clanking of the Guardian's approach grows louder, its metal echoing off the stone walls. The water swirls around their legs, icy tendrils reaching up to grab at them as if trying to pull them under. Varikka's grip on her crowbar tightens as she regards Merrin, her jaw set in grim determination. "On your feet, woman!" she growls through gritted teeth. "We're not dying here, not today."
With a final surge of strength, Varikka pushes forward into the darkness, her crowbar raised high and her eyes fixed on the distant glimmer of light. Together, they stagger through the rising floodwaters, their weapons at the ready and their hearts pounding in their chests. As they round a bend in the tunnel, Merrin spots a faint glimmer of light in the distance, barely visible through the darkness and the rising flood. Varikka's heart races as she sees the opening, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps. The water surges around her knees, icy tendrils reaching up to grab at her legs. She knows they have to keep moving if they hope to survive this. With a final burst of strength, she hauls Merrin forward by the arm, their crowbars held high as they lunge towards the opening. The creature snaps at their heels, its jaws wide and dripping with froth. But they make it through just as the water crashes against the tunnel walls, threatening to sweep them away forever. Varikka's eyes lock onto Merrin, her jaw set in grim determination. "We made it," she whispers, her voice hoarse and strained. "But we're not out of this yet." She knows they have to keep moving if they hope to survive. But the tunnel ahead is dark and unknown, filled with dangers they can only imagine. Together, they push forward into the darkness, their crowbars held high and their eyes fixed on the faint glimmer of light ahead. They have to keep moving, no matter what horrors await them in the depths of this accursed tower. As they stagger through the water, Varikka's ankle throbs with pain, each step sending jolts of agony up her leg. But she grits her teeth and pushes onward, knowing that they can't afford to stop. The Guardian's clanking grows louder behind them, its metal echoing off the stone walls as it gives chase. Merrin's breath comes in short, ragged gasps as she tries to keep pace with Varikka, her arms aching from the weight of her crowbar. "Varikka," she pants, her voice strained with exhaustion. "We need to find a way out of here. And fast."
Varikka nods grimly, her eyes scanning the tunnel ahead for any sign of an escape route. She knows that they can't keep running forever - eventually, the Guardian will catch up to them, and they'll be trapped in this accursed tunnel with no means of escape. But what choice do they have? They can't turn back now, not with the water rising faster with each passing second. "I know a way," she says, pointing towards a narrow passage that branches off from the main tunnel. "It's a risk, but it might be our only chance."
Merrin follows Varikka's gaze, her heart sinking as she sees the darkness of the passageway ahead. As they stagger through the darkness, Varikka's mind races with possibilities. They need a plan, something to give them an edge against the Guardian and its minions. But what? She's no mage or cleric, and her strength is fading with each passing moment. Merrin seems to sense her companion's unease. "We'll figure this out," she says, her voice filled with a fierce determination. "Together."
Varikka nods, drawing strength from Merrin's words. They may be facing the darkest depths of the tower, but they're not alone. And as long as they have each other, there's still hope. With a final burst of speed, they lunge forward into the unknown, their crowbars at the ready and their hearts pounding in their chests. They have to keep moving, no matter what horrors await them in the depths of this cursed place.
