Round 472 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin pushes forward through the water, her crowbar held high, the creature bursts from the surface, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. The Guardian's clanking metal on stone grows louder, closer, and more insistent. The water swirls around Varikka's knees, icy tendrils reaching up to grab at her legs. Varikka's injured ankle screams in protest as she takes a step forward, her eyes fixed on the opening ahead. She tries to steady herself, but the rock jutting from the wall provides little stability. The Guardian's approach is now mere seconds behind, its metal clanking against the stone floor. The creature lunges at Merrin, its jaws open wide, revealing rows of sharp teeth. Merrin stumbles back, her crowbar raised high, as Varikka shouts, "Get it off me! Get it off!" The Guardian's clanking grows louder, and the water level rises even higher, threatening to engulf them.
A scream of terror escapes Merrin's throat as the creature bursts from the water, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. Her heart hammers in her chest as she staggers back, nearly losing her balance on the slippery stone surface. Varikka's crowbar is raised high, muscles coiled and ready to strike at a moment's notice. The Guardian's approach grows louder, the sound of grinding stone and shifting debris echoing through the tunnel. The water swirls around their knees, icy tendrils reaching up to grab at their legs as if trying to pull them under. "Varikka, the opening!" Merrin shouts, pointing towards the narrow passage with her free hand. "We have to get out of this damn tunnel before that thing gets any closer!"
Varikka's eyes lock onto the creature, her jaw set in determination. She takes a step forward, her injured ankle screaming in protest, as she assesses the passage. "On your feet, woman!" she growls through gritted teeth, hauling herself up on the rock's edge. "We're not dying here, not today."
Merrin nods, her eyes fixed on the opening ahead. She knows they must move quickly if they hope to escape alive. With a final surge of strength, she pushes forward into the darkness, her crowbar raised high and her eyes fixed on the distant glimmer of light. Together, they stagger through the rising floodwaters, their weapons at the ready and their hearts pounding in their chests. As they round a bend in the tunnel, Merrin spots a faint glimmer of light in the distance, barely visible through the darkness and the rising flood. "It's our only chance now - keep moving, no matter what!" Merrin yells, her voice cracking with fear and exhaustion. "We have to make it to that opening or we're dead for sure!"
Varikka grits her teeth, pushing forward despite the pain in her ankle. The Guardian's clanking grows louder behind them, the creature's jaws snapping just inches from Merrin's face. They stumble through the water, their movements becoming more frantic as the tunnel walls close in around them. Suddenly, a creature shape bursts from the surface of the water, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly light. Merrin screams, staggering back as Varikka swings her crowbar with all her might. The creature's jaws snap shut on empty air, its body writhing in the water. But there's no time to celebrate. The Guardian is closing in, its metal clanking against the stone floor. The water level rises even higher, threatening to engulf them completely. "Go, go!" Varikka shouts, hauling Merrin forward by the arm. "We have to get out of this damn tunnel before it's too late!"
Merrin nods, pushing herself onward through sheer force of will. She knows they're little more than desperate now, but there's no other choice. They have to keep moving, no matter what horrors await them in the darkness ahead. With a final burst of speed, they lunge towards the opening, their crowbars at the ready and their hearts pounding in their chests. The creature snaps at their heels, its jaws wide and dripping with froth. But they make it through just as the water crashes against the tunnel walls, threatening to sweep them away forever. They collapse on the other side, gasping for breath and staring at each other in grim silence. They're alive, but for how long? The Guardian's clanking grows louder behind them, its metal echoing off the stone walls. Merrin looks at Varikka, her eyes wide with fear and exhaustion. "We made it," she whispers, her voice hoarse and strained. "But we're not out of this yet."
Varikka nods, her jaw set in grim determination. She knows they have to keep moving if they hope to survive. But the tunnel ahead is dark and unknown, filled with dangers they can only imagine.
