Phase: escalating

Merrin clung to the ledge, dark eyes scanning the chamber as rising waters lapped at her boots. Ancient runes glinted above pressure plates—traps, she knew—as Varikka’s voice cried out for escape. Every second counted, the waters rising fast. She had to navigate this carefully or they’d trigger doom.
Her fingers found purchase on the stone shelf, muscles tensing as she prepared to move across the deadly floor. The pattern of plates offered no obvious solution—ancient symbols holding secrets lost to time. She needed a clue, a sequence, anything that might reveal safe passage.
But the water was already at her ankles now, cold and insistent. Merrin gritted her teeth, forcing herself to focus despite the rising panic. One wrong step would mean instant death for both of them—she couldn’t afford mistakes.
She studied the plates intently, mind racing through possibilities. What would a thief do? A scout? Her training screamed at her to find the pattern, the trigger hidden among the ancient symbols.
The water rose again, now lapping at her knees. Merrin knew they were running out of time—minutes left before the chamber filled completely. She refused to give up hope, refused to let fear paralyze her into inaction.
With a deep breath, she committed to her first careful step across the treacherous floor. Her heart raced but hands remained steady as she hovered above the first plate. Each movement was a gamble against time and ancient traps.
She wouldn’t let this tomb win—not today, not like this. Merrin would find a way through—together with Varikka, they would survive this ordeal no matter what it took.
