Round 455 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka stands her ground, her mace raised high above her head, as the shadowy figures close in. The Guardian lumbers towards them, its eyes fixed on Varikka with an unnerving intensity. Suddenly, a loud creaking sound echoes through the chamber, and the ground beneath Varikka's feet gives way once more. She stumbles, her sprained ankle throbbing in agony, but refuses to fall. The shadowy figures are mere inches from her face now, their claws snapping wildly as they attack. Varikka's mace crashes down onto the stone floor, striking one of the figures with a sickening crunch. The creature dissolves into nothingness, leaving behind a trail of darkness and a faint scent of decay. The Guardian is now mere feet away, its hot breath washing over Varikka like a wave.
Merrin's eyes go wide with alarm as she sees Varikka stumble, her mace striking the stone floor with a sickening crunch. "Varikka, look out!" she shouts, her voice echoing through the chamber.
She lunges forward, grabbing Varikka's arm and yanking her away from the approaching figures just as one of them dissolves into darkness, leaving behind a faint scent of decay. The Guardian is now mere feet away, its hot breath washing over them like a wave. "We need to keep moving," Merrin says, her voice low and urgent as she pulls Varikka towards the passageway ahead.
Together, they stumble forward, their footsteps echoing off the stone walls as they race towards the opening. The air is thick with the scent of decay, and Merrin can feel her lungs burning as she sucks in each desperate breath. But as they round a corner, she sees it - a massive stone door, looming before them like a monolith from another age. "Look!" she shouts to Varikka, pointing towards the opening. "There might be a way out!"
But before they can take a step forward, the ground beneath them gives way once more, and they find themselves sliding down another steep incline. Merrin cries out as she lands hard, her sprained ankle throbbing with pain. She scrambles to her feet, grabbing her crossbow from where it had fallen beside her. "Go!" she shouts to Varikka, shoving her towards the opening. "I'll hold them off!"
Merrin turns to face the approaching figures, her eyes narrowing as she takes a deep breath. She can feel the weight of the Guardian's gaze upon her, its hot breath washing over her like a wave. The shadowy figures are mere feet away now, their claws snapping hungrily as they stalk towards her. But Merrin stands her ground, raising her crossbow high above her head. "Come and get me, you bastards," she growls, her voice filled with defiance.
She takes aim at the Guardian's head, her finger tightening on the trigger. But before she can fire, a loud creaking sound echoes through the chamber, and the ground beneath her feet gives way once more. "No!" Merrin cries out, stumbling as she loses her balance. She reaches out with her free hand, grasping at anything that might keep her from falling. Her fingers close around something solid, and she clings to it tightly as she feels herself sliding down the incline.
Merrin lands hard at the bottom of the slope, her crossbow clattering to the ground beside her. She scrambles to her feet, her heart pounding in her chest as she looks around wildly. "Varikka?" she calls out, her voice echoing through the chamber. "Varikka, where are you?"
