As we catch our breath on the other side of the door, I realize that our reprieve is short-lived. The Guardian is already beginning to claw at the door, its massive strength slowly wearing it down. We can hear the sound of rocks and dust spilling onto the floor as the door creaks under the creature's pressure. New detail: A faint glow emanates from a series of luminescent crystals embedded in the walls, casting an eerie light on the chamber. The Guardian seems to be drawn to this light, its eyes fixed intently on the crystals as it continues to claw at the door. Immediate pressure: With the door slowly collapsing, we need to find a way to distract the Guardian and hold it off while we search for another exit or a solution.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I can hear the stone door creaking behind us, the Guardian's relentless assault wearing it down with each passing second. Its roars echo through the chamber, muffled but no less terrifying for their distance. Varikka is hunched over beside me, her hands on her knees as she tries to catch her breath. I can see the pain etched into every line of her face, the exhaustion in the slump of her shoulders. We're in no shape for a fight, not with the Guardian and whatever other horrors might be lurking in this place. "We need to keep moving," I say, my voice hushed. "Stay close to the walls, try not to draw attention to ourselves." Varikka nods, straightening up and taking a tentative step forward. But as we move deeper into the chamber, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched. The luminescent crystals embedded in the walls seem to glow brighter as we approach, casting an eerie light over everything. And then I see it - a shadow, darting across the far wall, too fast to be anything natural. "Varikka," I whisper, my hand tightening on my crossbow. "We're not alone in here."

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

I tighten my grip on my mace, my eyes darting from side to side as I try to pinpoint the source of the shadow. "I see it," I mutter, my voice low and tense. "But what is it?"

The luminescent crystals cast an eerie glow over everything, making it hard to discern friend from foe. But one thing I know for sure - we're in no shape for a fight, not with the Guardian still clawing at the door behind us. I can hear the stone groaning under the creature's relentless pressure, can feel the ground shaking beneath my feet with each passing moment. We need to move, and we need to move now. I take a step forward, my mace held at the ready as I scan the shadows for any sign of movement. "Stay close," I hiss to Merrin, my eyes fixed on the far wall. "And be ready for anything."

Together, we creep forward, our footsteps echoing off the stone walls as we try to make our way deeper into the chamber. The air is thick with the scent of decay, and I can feel my lungs burning with each breath. But as we round a corner, I see it - another door, looming before us like a monolith from another age. And there, just to the side of the door, is a small gap, as if someone or something had recently passed through it. I glance back over my shoulder, catching a glimpse of the Guardian's massive form as it rounds the corner, its eyes fixed on us with unbridled hunger. "Look!" I shout to Merrin, pointing towards the opening. "There might be a way out!"

But before we can take a step forward, the ground beneath us gives way once more, and we find ourselves sliding down another steep incline. This time, we land hard, skinning our knees on the rough stone. My mace goes flying from my hand, but Merrin manages to scoop it up, clutching it tightly as she struggles to her feet. The Guardian is close now, its roar filling the chamber with a deafening din. I can see its massive form emerging from the shadows, its claws scraping against the stone as it lurches towards us. "Go!" I shout to Merrin, shoving her towards the opening. "I'll hold them off!"

I raise my mace, taking aim at the Guardian's head as it lumbers towards me. The metal meets flesh with a sickening crunch, but it barely slows the beast, and I can see that it's gaining ground with each passing moment. "Merrin!" I shout from the other side of the door. "Hurry!"

I take one last look at the Guardian, my heart pounding in my chest. Then, with a final burst of speed, I dive through the gap, rolling to my feet on the other side just as the creature's claws scrape against the stone where I had been standing mere moments before. For a moment, we stand there, panting and gasping for breath as we try to gather our wits. The door behind us is sealed tight, the Guardian's roars muffled but still audible from the other side. We made it, but where are we now?
