Round 449 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we press on, the tunnel begins to narrow, forcing us to move single-file. The air grows thick with dust, and I can feel the weight of the tunnel pressing down on us from all sides. Suddenly, the ground beneath us gives way, and we find ourselves sliding down a steep incline, our feet scraping against the rough stone. We land hard, skinning our knees on the rocky surface. Varikka's mace goes flying from her hand, but Merrin quickly scoops it up, her eyes scanning our surroundings. The Guardian is now mere seconds behind us, its roar echoing off the walls as it follows our fall.
I grit my teeth as we skid down the incline, scraping my hands and knees on the rough stone. The air is thick with dust, and I can feel the weight of the tunnel pressing down on us from all sides. As we come to a stop at the bottom, I quickly scoop up Varikka's mace, my eyes scanning our surroundings for any sign of danger. The Guardian's roar echoes off the walls, growing louder with each passing moment. We need to keep moving if we're going to stay ahead of it. "Come on," I hiss to Varikka, grabbing her arm and pulling her to her feet. "We can't stop now."
I take a step forward, my crossbow at the ready, but hesitate. The tunnel ahead is dark, the air thick with the scent of decay. I can hear the sound of water somewhere in the distance, the echo of it bouncing off the stone walls. I turn to Varikka, my eyes narrowed. "Do you hear that?" I ask, nodding towards the darkness. "Water. And it sounds like it's getting closer."
Varikka nods, her face set with determination. "Then we'd better find a way out of here," she says, her voice low and steady. "Before it's too late."
I take another step forward, my muscles coiled and ready for whatever challenges this place might throw our way. The future is uncertain, the path ahead unclear, but one thing I know for sure: I won't let anything stop me from finding a way out of here. Not even the darkness itself. I turn to Varikka, my eyes narrowing as I try to make out her expression in the dim light. "Stay close," I say, my voice a hushed murmur. "And be ready for anything. We don't know what's waiting for us in these tunnels."
With that, I take another step forward, my crossbow at the ready and my senses on high alert. The darkness seems to press in around us from all sides, the walls of the tunnel closing in like a suffocating embrace. But we have no choice but to press on, to keep moving deeper into this place until we find a way out. Or until something stops us for good.
