Round 447 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Varikka's grip on her mace tightens as she freezes, her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of movement. The scuttling grows louder, more insistent, and she can feel the hair on the back of her neck stand on end. Suddenly, a faint rustling echoes through the passageway, followed by the soft scuttling of unknown creatures. Varikka's eyes dart towards Merrin, who is frozen in place, her crossbow still trained on something in the darkness. The air is heavy with tension as the sound grows closer, and Varikka can feel the weight of her injured ankle threatening to give out at any moment.
I squint into the darkness, trying to make out any shapes or movement. My heart's pounding in my ears, but I force myself to take a deep breath, steadying my grip on the crossbow. "Stay still," I whisper to Varrika, "and stay quiet. Whatever it is, we don't want to draw its attention."
I strain my eyes, trying to pierce the shadows. The scuttling sound grows louder, more insistent, and I can see a faint movement in the darkness ahead. It's small, no more than the size of a rat, but there's something about the way it moves that sets my nerves on edge. I take a step forward, my crossbow trained on the spot where I last saw movement. The air is thick with dust and the musty scent of old stone, and I can feel the weight of the tunnel pressing down on me from all sides. "Varrika," I hiss under my breath, "whatever you do, don't make a sound. And be ready to move at a moment's notice."
I take another step forward, my muscles coiled and ready to spring into action at the first sign of danger. The scuttling grows louder, more insistent, and I can see the creature's shadow flitting across the stone walls. This is it, I think to myself. This is where we find out if we're going to make it out of this place alive.
