Narrator: The air in the hidden chamber grows heavy with tension as the two women exchange words, their eyes fixed on the ominous chest before them. The ground beneath their feet begins to shudder, a warning of the impending doom from the collapsing main chamber beyond. Varikka, her face set in a grimace of pain, limps towards the narrow passageway ahead, her injured ankle making each step a visible agony. Merrin follows, her rogue's instincts screaming at her to turn back, but the thought of leaving such a potential treasure behind gnaws at her. The decision made, they move forward into the darkness, the sound of rushing water now replaced by an eerie silence that seems to press in on them from all sides. The tunnel stretches out before them, a narrow slit in the stone that seems to lead deeper into the earth. Suddenly, a faint rustling echoes through the passageway, followed by the soft scuttling of unknown creatures. Varikka's grip on her mace tightens as she freezes, her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of movement.
Merrin: I freeze at the sound, my heart pounding in my ears. The scuttling grows louder, more insistent, and I can feel the hair on the back of my neck stand on end. "Varikka," I hiss under my breath, "did you hear that?"
