Round 441 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin and Varikka make their way towards the ventilation shaft, the water rises even higher, threatening to engulf them entirely. The Guardian takes another step closer, its massive fists swinging menacingly through the water. Suddenly, a chunk of the wall behind them gives way, sending a shower of sparks flying up into the air. The ledge beneath them creaks ominously, and Merrin's grip on Varikka's arm tightens as she struggles to keep her balance. Varikka's ankle throbs in agony as she tries to put weight on it, but Merrin's steady hand helps her stay upright. "We're almost there," Merrin says, her voice strained with worry. "Just a little further, and we'll be out of this nightmare."
As they near the ventilation shaft, the Guardian lunges forward, its jaws snapping wildly at the water mere inches from their faces. The creature's roar echoes through the chamber, making it impossible for them to hear each other's thoughts. With no time to lose, Merrin signals Varikka to move faster, and they both plunge towards the narrow opening in the wall, praying they can escape before the water engulfs them completely.
Merrin's heart pounds in her chest as she and Varikka race towards the ventilation shaft, the water rising rapidly around them. The Guardian's roar fills the chamber, its hot breath washing over them as it lunges forward, its jaws snapping wildly at the water mere inches from their faces. Merrin's grip on Varikka's arm tightens as they stumble and slip on the wet stone, but she refuses to let go. With a final burst of speed, they reach the narrow opening in the wall and plunge through, barely making it inside before the water rushes in behind them, filling the shaft. Merrin's breath comes in ragged gasps as she helps Varikka to her feet, the fighter's ankle throbbing with pain. "We made it," Merrin pants, her voice echoing off the metal walls of the ventilation shaft. "But we're not out of this yet."
The sound of rushing water fills the air as the floodwaters pour into the shaft behind them, and Merrin can feel the cold metal pressing against her back as she braces herself against the wall. Varikka's face is pale with pain, but there's a glimmer of hope in her eyes as she looks up at Merrin. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice strained but determined. "If we stay here, we'll be trapped."
Merrin nods, taking a deep breath to steady herself. She knows that the road ahead will be long and treacherous, but for now, all that matters is putting as much distance between them and the rising floodwaters as possible. With a final glance back at the churning water behind them, Merrin turns to face the darkness of the ventilation shaft ahead, her hand gripping the hilt of her dagger tightly. "Let's go," she says, her voice filled with determination. "We've got a long way to go, but we'll make it through this together."
And with that, Merrin and Varikka set off into the unknown, the sound of rushing water and the Guardian's distant roar fading behind them as they disappear into the shadows of the ventilation shaft.
