Round 436 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin and Varikka continue to move along the ledge, the ground beneath them shudders violently, causing them to stumble. A chunk of the wall gives way, sending a shower of sparks flying up into the air. The Guardian takes a step closer, its massive fists swinging menacingly through the water. Merrin's heart races as she grabs onto Varikka, steadying her on the ledge. "We need to find a new route, now!" she yells above the din of the Guardian's approach. Varikka nods grimly, her eyes scanning the ledge for any handholds or footholds that might help them escape. Just as they spot a narrow opening between two crumbling stones, a loud creaking sound echoes through the chamber, followed by the ominous rumble of falling debris. The Guardian's voice booms through the air once more, its words echoing off the crumbling stone walls: "You fools... it's too late!"
Merrin's heart pounds as she clings to the ledge, her eyes darting around desperately for any sign of escape. The water rises higher with each passing moment, and the Guardian looms ever closer, its massive form cutting through the churning waters like a shark.
"Varikka, we can't stay here!" Merrin shouts over the din of the collapsing chamber. "We need to find a way out, now!"
She reaches out, grasping Varikka's arm and pulling her friend closer. "Can you climb? We might be able to scale the wall if we can find a handhold or foothold..."
Merrin's words are cut short as a chunk of the ledge crumbles away beneath them, sending a shower of sparks and debris flying up into the air. She stumbles, her feet slipping on the wet stone, and for a moment she fears they will both be swept into the swirling waters below.
But with a herculean effort, Merrin steadies herself, bracing against the wall and using all her strength to keep Varikka from falling. "Hold on!" she cries, her voice straining with the effort. "I've got you!"
Merrin's eyes scan the ledge desperately, searching for any sign of a way out. The Guardian takes another step closer, its massive fists swinging menacingly through the water, and Merrin feels a wave of fear wash over her. They are running out of time, and she knows it.
But even as panic threatens to overwhelm her, Merrin forces herself to focus. She takes a deep breath, steadying herself against the wall. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice strained but determined. "I don't know where we're going yet, but I know that we can't stay here."*
Merrin turns to Varikka, her eyes locking with her friend's. "Can you make it a little further? We might be able to find a way out if we just keep pushing..."
Varrika's heart pounds in her chest as she clings to the ledge, the water rising higher with each passing moment. She can feel the Guardian's presence looming behind them, its hot breath washing over her back as it prepares to strike.
But even as fear threatens to overwhelm her, Varrika forces herself to focus. She turns to Merrin, her eyes locking with her friend's. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice strained but determined. "I don't know where we're going yet, but I know that we can't stay here."*
Varikka takes a deep breath, steadying herself against the wall. She knows that her ankle is badly sprained, and that she may not be able to move as quickly as Merrin. But she also knows that they cannot afford to wait.
With a herculean effort, Varikka pushes herself up onto her feet, using all her strength to keep her balance on the slippery ledge. "I can make it," she says, her voice strained. "But we need to find a way out soon, or we'll both be pulled under."*
Varikka's eyes scan the ledge desperately, searching for any sign of a handhold or foothold that might lead them to safety. She knows that the Guardian is getting closer with each passing moment, and that they are running out of time.
But even as panic threatens to overwhelm her, Varrika forces herself to focus. She takes a deep breath, steadying herself against the wall. "We need to keep pushing," she says, her voice strained but determined. "I don't know where we're going yet, but I know that we can't stay here."*
With a final look over her shoulder at the Guardian, Varikka turns and follows Merrin along the ledge, her heart pounding in her chest as she races towards an uncertain future. She knows that they may only have one chance to escape alive, and she won't let Merrin down.
