As Merrin helps Varikka through the tight opening, she stumbles on a loose stone, causing it to tumble down behind them. The Guardian takes a step closer, its massive fists swinging menacingly through the water. With a Herculean effort, Merrin pulls Varikka up onto the ledge, just as a chunk of the ledge gives way beneath them, sending a shower of sparks flying up into the air. The ground shudders violently beneath their feet, and the water level rises even higher, threatening to engulf them at any moment. Varikka's ankle throbs in agony as she struggles to put weight on it, but Merrin grabs her arm, steadying her. "We need to move now!" Merrin yells above the din of the Guardian's approach. "We can't outrun it - we need to find a new route, and fast!"

Varikka nods grimly, her eyes scanning the ledge for any handholds or footholds that might help them escape. The Guardian looms closer, its hot breath washing over them as it prepares to strike.

Merrin's heart races as she clings to the ledge, her fingers scraping against the rough stone. She glances over at Varikka, seeing the pain etched into her friend's face. "We need to keep moving," Merrin says, her voice strained. "Can you make it a little further?"

Varikka nods grimly, pushing herself up with her good leg. The two women move along the ledge, their hands searching for handholds or footholds that might lead them to safety. Merrin's mind races as she tries to think of a way out of this predicament.

Suddenly, a section of the ledge crumbles away beneath them, sending a shower of sparks and debris flying up into the air. The Guardian takes a step closer, its massive fists swinging menacingly through the water. Merrin's heart pounds in her chest as she realizes that they are running out of time.

She glances down at the swirling waters below, seeing the dark shapes of creatures moving beneath the surface. A wave of fear washes over her as she realizes just how dire their situation has become.

But even as panic threatens to overwhelm her, Merrin forces herself to focus. She knows that they cannot outrun the Guardian, and that their only hope is to find a new route to safety.

With a deep breath, she turns to Varikka, her eyes locked on her friend's face. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice steady despite the fear coursing through her veins. "I don't know where we're going yet, but I know that we can't stay here."

Varikka nods, her teeth gritted against the pain in her ankle. The two women exchange a grim smile as they prepare to face whatever challenges lie ahead.

And then, with a final look over her shoulder at the Guardian, Merrin turns and follows Varikka along the ledge, her heart pounding in her chest as she races towards an uncertain future.
