Round 424 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The Guardian's voice echoes through the corridor once more, its tone dripping with malevolent glee: "You fools; you think you can escape the tower?" The ground beneath Varikka's feet buckles, and she cries out as her injured ankle gives way beneath her for the second time. Merrin quickly pulls her close, supporting her weight as she struggles to stand. The hidden catch triggers once more, sending a section of the pit trap wall crashing down on the other side, showering debris into the air. A chunk of stone crashes onto Varikka's mace, rendering it useless.
I grimace as I pull Varikka close, my arms tightening around her waist to support her weight. The sound of falling stone echoes through the pit, and I can feel the reverberation of each impact in my bones. "Varikka, what in the nine hells?" I mutter under my breath, my eyes darting around the chamber as I try to make sense of the situation. As the dust settles, I spot a chunk of stone resting on Varikka's mace, rendering it useless. I let out a low whistle, my gaze sweeping over the debris-strewn floor. "Looks like the tower has one final trick up its sleeve," I say wryly, my attempt at humor falling flat in the face of our predicament. I tighten my grip on Varikka, helping her to stand on her uninjured leg. "Can you put any weight on that ankle?" I ask, my brow furrowing with concern as I watch her struggle to keep her balance. The sound of rushing water echoes through the chamber once more, a reminder of the time we're running out. I glance towards the edge of the pit, where a section of the wall has collapsed. "Varikka," I say softly, "I think there might be something over there." I nod towards the debris-strewn area, my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. "But we need to be careful. If there's another trap, we don't want to set it off."
I take a step towards the wall, my hand reaching out to steady myself against the slick stones. As I move closer, I notice a faint outline in the shadows, a hint of a hidden mechanism or a trigger. "Stay here," I mutter to Varikka, my eyes never leaving the wall. "I need to check this out."
With a deep breath, I take another step forward, my fingers probing at the cracks between the stones. The air grows colder as I move deeper into the pit, and I can feel the weight of the stone walls pressing down on me from all sides. As I reach for the hidden catch, I brace myself for whatever might lie ahead. "Here goes nothing," I mutter under my breath, my fingers grasping at the trigger. With a soft click, the wall slides open, revealing a hidden passage beyond. I let out a low whistle, my eyes widening as I take in the sight before me. "Well, well, well," I say, a mischievous glint in my eye as I turn back to face Varikka. "Looks like we just found our way out of this pit."
Narrika grits her teeth as Merrin helps her to her feet, her injured ankle screaming in pain with each step. The sound of rushing water echoes through the chamber, a reminder of the time they're running out. As Merrin moves towards the wall, Varrika's eyes dart around the pit, searching for any sign of movement or danger.
When Merrin finds the hidden trigger, Varikka lets out a low whistle, her eyes widening in surprise. "Well, well, well," she says, a hint of dry amusement in her voice as she leans against the wall for support. "Looks like you found our way out after all."
She takes a limping step towards Merrin, her hand reaching out to steady herself against the stones. As she moves closer, Varikka's gaze sweeps over the hidden passage, taking in every detail of the shadows beyond.
With a deep breath, she turns back to face Merrin, her expression serious. "Alright, rogue," she says, her voice strained with pain and exhaustion. "Let's see where this leads us. But be on your guard. If there's one thing I've learned in this tower, it's that nothing is ever as it seems."
Varrika limps forward, her hand tightening around Merrin's arm as she moves into the hidden passage. The air grows colder as they step into the shadows, and Varrika can feel a sense of unease settling over her like a shroud. "Stay close," she mutters to Merrin, her voice barely above a whisper. "And keep your eyes peeled. We don't know what we'll find in here."
As they move deeper into the passage, Varrika's mind races with possibilities. The sound of rushing water fades behind them, replaced by a deep, ominous silence that seems to press in from all sides. She can feel the weight of the stone walls above them, the crushing pressure of the tower bearing down on their every step.
But even as her body aches and her mind grows weary, Varrika presses on, driven by a desperate need to find a way out of this cursed place. With Merrin at her side, she limps forward into the unknown, her heart heavy with the knowledge that whatever lies ahead, it will not be easy.
And so they venture deeper into the hidden passage, their footsteps echoing through the shadows as they search for a way out of the tower's clutches. The darkness presses in around them, a suffocating presence that seems to whisper warnings of the dangers yet to come.
