Merrin's hand tightens around her mace as she peers down the dark staircase, her eyes fixed on the water pressure gauge on the wall. The reading has just spiked again, indicating that the tunnel behind them is collapsing faster. The Guardian's voice booms through the chamber once more, "You fools; you think you can escape the tower? The Guardian awaits, and so does the unknown figure in the new chamber."

Varikka winces as she takes a tentative step forward, her injured ankle throbbing with every movement. The ground beneath them begins to slope downward, making it harder for Varikka to maintain her balance. Merrin's grip on her mace loosens slightly as she catches Varikka by the elbow, steadying her.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I grit my teeth as I take another step down the slick staircase, my hand gripping Varikka's arm for support. Stay alert, I mutter, we don't know what's waiting for us at the bottom of these stairs. The water pressure gauge on the wall catches my eye again, and I feel a chill run down my spine. We need to move fast; that tunnel behind us is collapsing faster than I thought. As we descend into the darkness, I find myself scanning the shadows for any signs of movement. Varikka, I hiss, how's your ankle holding up? I can see the pain etched on her face, but she nods grimly, her jaw set with determination. We'll make it out of here, I mutter, even if I have to carry you over my shoulder. The Guardian's voice echoes through the chamber once more, sending a shudder down my spine. "You fools; you think you can escape the tower? The Guardian awaits, and so does the unknown figure in the new chamber." I grit my teeth, my grip tightening on my mace. We'll see about that, I mutter, as we disappear into the darkness below.*

As we reach the bottom of the stairs, I can feel the ground trembling beneath my feet, and the sound of rushing water grows louder still. The air is thick with the scent of damp earth and decay, and I can see a faint glimmer of light in the distance. Varikka, I hiss, watch for anything that might be hiding in these shadows. We need to be ready for whatever lies ahead.

Varrika

Varrika · Fighter

Nods grimly at Merrin's words, limping along with a wince. Merrin, you're right. We keep moving. Grips the mace tightly in her uninjured hand, eyes scanning the shadows ahead. I hear that rumbling too. Something's coming. Her jaw tightens, resolve hardening. Whatever it is, we face it together. Bracing herself against the wall, Varikka takes another step down, ankle screaming with pain. You've carried me this far, Merrin. Won't let you down now. She forces a tight smile. My mace still swings true. If it comes to a fight, I'll hold my own. Listens as the Guardian's voice echoes in the darkness. That voice... it knows something we don't. She frowns, her brow furrowing. But if it thinks we'll just give up, it's dead wrong. Varikka meets Merrin's eyes, her own shining with determination. No matter what's waiting for us, we get to the bottom of this tower. She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever lies ahead. Together, we've faced worse than any Guardian or unknown figure. We'll face this too... and we'll find a way out. With that, Varrika limps onward, her mace at the ready, her eyes fixed on the darkness ahead. She knows the danger is coming, but she's prepared to meet it head-on, whatever the cost.
