As Varikka emerges from the tunnel, Merrin's eyes widen with relief, but her expression soon turns grave. "Varikka, we need to move now!" she exclaims, her voice laced with urgency. "The tunnel is collapsing behind us, and the water pressure is getting worse by the second!"

As they speak, the ground beneath them gives a loud creak, and the sound of rushing water grows even louder. The tunnel's walls begin to crumble, sending loose rock and debris cascading down the passage. Varikka stumbles, her injured ankle throbbing in pain, but Merrin quickly catches her by the arm, helping her stay upright. The narrow opening they emerged from is now just a few feet away, but it's too late to reach it. The boulder that blocked their way has shifted, revealing a narrow chasm in the tunnel's floor. A small, rickety wooden bridge spans the chasm, swaying precariously in the current.

I can hardly believe my eyes when Varikka emerges from the tunnel, her face pale and drawn but her eyes alight with relief at the sight of me. "Varikka!" I cry out, reaching for her with shaking hands. "Thank the gods you made it!"

But there's no time to waste on pleasantries. The sound of rushing water grows louder by the second, and I can feel the ground shaking beneath our feet as the tunnel begins to collapse around us. "Varikka, we need to move now!" I exclaim, my voice laced with urgency. "The tunnel is collapsing behind us, and the water pressure is getting worse by the second!"

As if to underscore my words, a loud creak echoes through the passage, sending loose rock and debris cascading down the walls. Varikka stumbles, her injured ankle throbbing in pain, but I quickly catch her by the arm, helping her stay upright. I scan the tunnel ahead, my eyes widening as I take in the scene before us. The narrow opening we emerged from is now just a few feet away, but it's too late to reach it. The boulder that blocked our way has shifted, revealing a narrow chasm in the floor of the tunnel. A small, rickety wooden bridge spans the chasm, swaying precariously in the current.

I feel a chill run down my spine as I realize the danger we're in. One wrong step and we could both plummet into the icy depths below. "Varikka, be careful," I warn, my voice tight with tension. "The bridge looks unstable."

But there's no other way forward. The tunnel behind us is crumbling, the water rising with every passing second. And beyond the chasm, I can see a glimmer of light, shining through a narrow opening in the wall. It's our only hope of escape.

I take a deep breath and steel myself for what I know I must do. "Varikka, I'm going to go first," I say, my voice firm with determination. "You follow close behind, and watch your step. We can't afford to lose our footing now."

And with that, I step out onto the bridge, my heart pounding in my chest as I feel it sway beneath my feet. The water churns below, its dark depths promising a cold and watery grave if we should fall. But I don't let fear stop me. I take another step, and then another, my hands gripping the rope railing tightly as I make my way across the span.

I can hear Varikka's labored breathing behind me as she follows close on my heels, her injured ankle slowing her progress. But we don't have time to stop and rest. The sound of rushing water grows louder still, and I can feel the bridge trembling beneath our feet as the current builds.

But we press on, one step at a time, until finally, mercifully, we reach the other side. I let out a sigh of relief as I help Varikka climb up onto the solid ground, my heart still racing in my chest. "We made it," I breathe, my voice hoarse with exhaustion. "But we're not out of danger yet."

I turn to face the narrow opening in the wall, my eyes narrowing as I take in the scene beyond. The tunnel stretches on into the darkness, its walls crumbling and its floor slick with moisture. But there's no turning back now. We've come too far to give up.

So I take a deep breath and step forward, my hand gripping the crowbar tightly as I lead the way into the unknown. "Come on, Varikka," I call over my shoulder, my voice tight with determination. "Let's see where this takes us."
