Round 350 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

The air grows colder as Merrin's words hang, suspended between her and the figure shrouded in darkness. The only sound is the soft rustling of fabric against stone, a gentle warning that the creature is not yet ready to make its move. Varikka's shield bounces off the ground, a faint clang that echoes through the chamber, but she doesn't flinch.
I freeze, my hand still extended in a threatening gesture, as the glowing eyes in the darkness take a cautious step back. My breath catches in my throat as I strain to make out any other details about the figure, but the shadows are too deep. Varikka's voice echoes through the chamber, her concern for me evident even as she struggles to keep her own footing on the crumbling ledge. "Merrin, we need to move now!" Her words send a jolt of urgency through my body, and I realize how long I've been frozen, staring at the unknown creature. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and I can feel the ground trembling beneath my feet. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves. "I hear you, Varikka," I call back, my voice shaking only slightly. "But we have company." I keep my eyes fixed on the glowing eyes in the darkness, my hand tightening on the hilt of my mace. "You there, in the shadows. Show yourself, and be quick about it. We don't have time for games."
I take a cautious step back, my eyes scanning the chamber for any other exits or hiding places. The pedestal in the center of the room draws my attention, its strange symbols and runes seeming to pulse with an otherworldly energy. I wonder briefly what secrets it holds, but the thought is quickly driven from my mind by the urgency of our situation. Varikka's voice cuts through my thoughts once again, her tone strained with concern. "Merrin, what's happening? Do you need help?" I can hear the fear in her voice, and it twists my heart to think of her struggling alone on the ledge. "Stay there, Varikka," I call back, trying to keep my voice steady. "I'll handle this. Just...just try not to fall into the water, alright?" My words are meant to be a joke, but they come out sounding more like a plea. I take another step back, my eyes still fixed on the glowing eyes in the darkness. The creature seems to sense my unease, its eyes narrowing as if in challenge. I can feel the weight of my mace in my hand, the familiar grip a comfort in the face of the unknown. "Last chance," I growl, my voice low and menacing. "Show yourself, or I'll be forced to assume you mean us harm." I brace myself for a fight, my muscles coiled and ready to strike at a moment's notice. But deep down, I know that we don't have time for this. The entire chamber could come down around us at any moment, and the sound of rushing water grows louder with each passing second. I glance back at Varikka, my heart aching with the knowledge that she may be trapped on the other side of this crumbling ledge. "Varikka, we need to find a way out of here," I call out, my voice strained with urgency. "The whole place is coming down!"
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever comes next. Whatever this creature is, whatever secrets it holds, we don't have time for it. We need to move, and move now, before the entire tower collapses around us. I can only hope that whatever path we choose, it leads us to safety.
