Round 342 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka hauls Merrin forward, the boulder crashes down mere inches from them, sending a shower of rubble and dust swirling around their ankles. The impact sends shockwaves rippling through the stone, causing the ledge to shudder violently beneath their feet. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath Varikka's feet, and she stumbles, nearly falling into the rising water. Merrin cries out in alarm, her injured leg aching with each movement. The water surges around their ankles with increased ferocity, threatening to sweep them away at any moment. Varikka struggles to maintain her balance, her crossbow slipping from her grasp as she fights to keep herself upright. The creatures, sensing their opportunity, emerge from the darkness, their glowing eyes fixed on the pair. Immediate Pressure: Can Merrin find a way to steady Varikka and retrieve her crossbow before they're swept away by the rising water?
I cry out as Varikka stumbles, nearly falling into the rising water. My heart leaps into my throat as I see her struggling to maintain her balance, her crossbow slipping from her grasp. "Varikka!" I shout, my voice hoarse with panic. "Hold on!"
I lunge forward, my good leg pushing off against the slick stone as I reach out with my arms. My fingers brush against Varikka's shoulder, and I grip the leather of her armor, hauling her back towards me with all the strength in my body. "Got you!" I gasp, my breath coming in ragged pants as I struggle to keep us both upright on the treacherous ledge. The water surges around our ankles, growing deeper with each passing moment, but I barely notice the cold liquid soaking into my boots. My entire focus is on keeping Varikka steady, on keeping us both from being swept away by the rising tide. "We've got to keep moving," I say, my voice tight with tension as I scan the shadows ahead for any sign of movement. "Come on, Varikka. We can't stop now!"
Varikka nods grimly, her eyes flashing in the dim light as she hauls herself up to her full height. Her hand reaches down, scrabbling at the stone where her crossbow lies discarded. "I've got it," she grunts, her fingers closing around the weapon's stock. "Let's go."
Together, we stagger forward through the chaos and carnage of the crumbling chamber, our bodies pressed close as we struggle to keep our balance on the ledge. The creatures are still out there, lurking in the darkness, but for now they seem content to let us fight our own battle against the rising water. And even as the walls crumble around us and the ground shudders beneath our feet, I feel a flicker of hope kindling in my chest. We may be trapped, surrounded, and outnumbered...but we're not alone. We have each other, and as long as we stand together, there's still a chance that we might make it out of this hellhole alive.
