Round 340 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin raises her crossbow to fire again, a loud rumbling sound fills the chamber, and the ground shudders violently beneath their feet. The water surges around their ankles, rising at an alarming rate, and the air is filled with the acrid smell of damp earth and debris. A massive boulder comes crashing down from above, hurtling towards them with deadly precision. Merrin's eyes widen in alarm as she realizes they're completely surrounded, with no way to escape the crushing weight of the falling stone. Varikka swiftly readies her crossbow, taking aim at the boulder as it hurtles towards them. "We need to get out of here, now!" she shouts above the din, but the sound of the boulder is deafening, and the gravity of their situation is clear: they must act fast or risk being crushed beneath its massive weight.
I feel my heart pounding in my chest as the boulder comes crashing down towards us, its massive weight threatening to crush us beneath its crushing bulk. I can see the fear in Varikka's eyes, the same desperate determination that burns in my own chest. We're both exhausted, injured, and trapped in a death trap. And I know, deep down, that we may not make it out of this alive. But still, I don't let go of Varikka's hand. I haul her along the ledge, my muscles burning with exertion as we fight our way through the chaos and carnage of the crumbling chamber. The water surges around our ankles, rising at an alarming rate, and the ground shakes with each passing moment. But I don't let go. I can't let go. Varikka is my friend, my comrade, and I'll be damned if I let her fall to her death in this godforsaken place. So I keep moving, keep fighting, even as the walls crumble around us and the creatures close in from all sides. And I pray to whatever gods may be listening that we find a way out of this hellhole alive. As the boulder hurtles towards us, I can see Varikka's eyes narrow with determination, her muscles tensing as she takes aim with her crossbow. But even as the bolt flies true, striking the stone with a resounding crack, I know it's not enough. The boulder continues its inexorable descent, and I can feel the weight of it pressing down on us from above. With a cry of effort, I throw myself to the side, hauling Varikka with me as the boulder crashes down onto the ledge where we were standing mere moments before. The impact sends shockwaves rippling through the stone, and I can feel the ground shaking beneath my feet. But even as the dust settles around us, I know that we're not out of danger yet. The water is still rising, surging around our ankles and threatening to sweep us off our feet at any moment. And in the distance, I can hear the sound of more creatures, drawn by the noise and the promise of fresh meat. "We need to keep moving," I gasp, hauling myself up onto my feet and staggering forward through the rising water. "There's no time to rest."
Varikka nods grimly, her eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of movement. "I know," she says, her voice tight with tension. "But where else can we go? The ledge is crumbling, the water's rising faster than we can climb, and those creatures are closing in from all sides."
I grit my teeth against the pain in my leg, forcing myself to put weight on it as we stagger forward through the rising water. "Then we fight our way through," I say, my voice hard with determination. "We keep moving, keep fighting, and pray to whatever gods may be listening that we find a way out of this hellhole alive."
Varikka meets my gaze, her eyes flashing in the dim light. "Agreed," she says, her hand tightening on her crossbow. "But we stick together, no matter what. We've made it this far, and I'll be damned if I let you fall now."
I feel a surge of gratitude for Varikka's presence at my side, even as the fear and exhaustion weigh heavy on my shoulders. Together, we may stand a chance against the horrors that lurk in the darkness. But alone...I shudder to think of the fate that awaits us if we're separated in this godforsaken place. With a final glance around the crumbling chamber, I turn back to face the shadows, my crossbow at the ready and my eyes scanning for any sign of movement. "Then let's get moving," I say, my voice hard with determination. "We've got a hell of a fight ahead of us, but we'll be damned if we go down without a fight."
I gritted my teeth as the boulder crashed down mere inches from us, showering Merrin and I with rubble and dust. My heart raced as I hauled Merrin to her feet, both of us staggering under the weight of our exhaustion and injuries. "Merrin, we need to move!" I shouted over the din of falling debris. "The whole damn place is coming down around us!"
I could see the fear in Merrin's eyes, but also a fierce determination that mirrored my own. We had fought too hard, come too far, to let this crumbling hellhole be our end. "On your feet!" I growled, hauling Merrin up by her arm and shoving her ahead of me along the ledge. "We stick together, no matter what!"
The water surged around our ankles as we stumbled forward, the cold liquid sending a jolt through my tired body. But there was no time to rest, no time to catch our breath. The creatures were still out there, lurking in the shadows, waiting for us to let our guard down. I kept my crossbow at the ready, my eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of movement. Merrin stayed close at my side, her own weapon trained on the shadows ahead. Together, we pushed forward through the chaos and carnage, our hearts pounding in sync as we fought our way towards some faint hope of escape. But deep down, I knew the truth. This was a lost cause. We were trapped, surrounded on all sides by crumbling walls and rising water, with no way out but through the horrors that lurked in the darkness. And even if we did somehow manage to survive this hellhole alive, what then? What awaited us beyond these walls? I shook my head, trying to push the dark thoughts from my mind. There would be time enough for those questions later. For now, all that mattered was keeping Merrin safe, keeping us both moving forward one step at a time. And if we did somehow make it out of this nightmare alive...well, I'd face whatever came next when the time came. But until then, I had a job to do. A friend to protect. And I'd be damned if I let anything stop me from seeing this through to the end. So I kept moving, kept fighting, even as the walls crumbled around us and the water surged at our feet. And I prayed to whatever gods might be listening that we would find a way out of this hellhole alive.
