Round 334 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin struggles to regain her footing on the ledge, the chamber lurches violently once more, sending both women tumbling across the slick stone. The water rushes in, swirling around their feet like a churning abyss. Varikka's grip on Merrin's arm tightens as she catches her, pulling her back onto the narrow ledge. In the chaos, the glowing-eyed creature reappears, its eyes fixed on Varikka with an unnerving intensity. The air is filled with the sound of crumbling stone and the deafening roar of the rising water. Merrin's injured leg throbs with pain as she regains her balance, her eyes locked on Varikka for reassurance. Suddenly, a section of the wall gives way, sending a massive boulder hurtling down the chamber towards them. The creature takes advantage of the distraction to dart forward, its jaws open wide in a deadly strike.
As the boulder hurtles towards us and the creature lunges forward, I react on pure instinct. I swing my mace with all my remaining strength, catching the beast square in the face with a sickening crunch. The creature staggers back, momentarily stunned, giving Varikka just enough time to yank me out of the way of the oncoming rock. We tumble across the ledge, the pain in my leg flaring white-hot as I try to find purchase on the slick stone. "Varikka!" I cry out, my voice raw with pain and desperation as I struggle to regain my footing. "We need to move!"
The dwarf nods grimly, hauling me to my feet with surprising strength for her size. Together, we stagger along the ledge, the water surging around our ankles as we fight to stay upright. I can feel the ground shaking beneath us, the sound of crumbling stone echoing through the chamber like a death knell. Suddenly, a section of the wall gives way entirely, sending a shower of rubble cascading down onto the ledge behind us. I throw myself forward, my mace at the ready as I scan the shadows for any sign of further threats. But for now, it seems that we've narrowly avoided another disaster. "Keep moving," Varikka grunts, her voice strained with effort as she hauls me along the ledge. "We need to find higher ground before this whole place comes down on top of us."
I nod, my heart hammering in my chest as I fight to keep up with the dwarf's relentless pace. The pain in my leg is almost unbearable now, but I know that we can't afford to stop. Not with the water rising and the chamber shaking around us. "So much for an easy escape," I mutter darkly, my eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of further threats. "But we're not out of this mess yet."
I hold onto Merrin tightly as we both tumble across the ledge, the boulder narrowly missing us as it crashes into the churning water below. The creature's attack is quickly forgotten in the chaos of the moment, my sole focus on keeping myself and Merrin from being swept away by the rising tide. "Merrin, can you walk?" I ask, my voice strained as I haul her to her feet. She nods grimly, leaning heavily against me for support. Together, we stagger along the narrow ledge, the water surging around our ankles as we fight to stay upright. The pain in my wrist is excruciating, but I push it aside, knowing that we can't afford to stop. "Keep moving," I grunt, my muscles straining as I pull Merrin along beside me. "We need to find higher ground before this whole place comes down on top of us."
I can see the fear in her eyes, the same desperate determination that I feel burning in my own chest. We're both exhausted, injured, and trapped in a death trap. But we're not ready to give up just yet. "Don't let go," Merrin gasps, her fingers digging into my arm as she struggles to keep her balance on the slick stone. "Please, Varikka. I can't...I can't lose you too."
I meet her gaze, my expression fierce and determined. "You won't," I promise, my voice rough with emotion. "I've got you, Merrin. We're going to make it out of this alive. Together."
And with that, we stagger on, fighting our way through the chaos and carnage of the crumbling chamber, our lives depending on every desperate step we take along the narrow ledge.
