Round 321 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As we step into the narrow passageway, the sound of rushing water grows louder, and the air thickens with mist. The walls seem to close in around us, making it difficult to see more than a few feet ahead. I fumble for my torch and light it, casting flickering shadows on the damp stone. The flame dances across the wall, illuminating ancient carvings that depict twisted creatures and forgotten rituals. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath us, and we find ourselves sliding down a steep chute, the air rushing past our ears. We tumble through darkness, unable to control our descent, until we come to a stop with a splat in a shallow pool of murky water. As we surface, coughing and sputtering, I realize that we've entered a hidden underground lake, its surface reflecting the torchlight above like a dark mirror. The water is icy cold, and I can see our reflections staring back at us, distorted and eerie.
As I struggle to my feet in the shallow pool, water sloshing around my boots, I take in our surroundings with a mix of awe and dread. The hidden lake stretches out before us, its surface as still as glass save for the occasional ripple where the torchlight catches on the water. In the distance, I can make out the vague shapes of stalactites and stalagmites rising from the depths, their forms twisted and eerie in the flickering light. Varikka is already on her feet beside me, her eyes scanning the chamber with a grim intensity as she tries to get her bearings. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice low and urgent. "We don't know how long this place will stay stable."
I nod, my own heart still pounding in my chest as I try to shake off the lingering fear of our near-drowning. "You're right," I say, my hand instinctively reaching for the hilt of my dagger as I take a step forward into the water. The cold seeps through my leathers, making me shiver, but I push the discomfort aside. We have bigger problems to worry about than a little chill. As we wade deeper into the lake, I find myself casting wary glances at the shadows that lurk just beyond the reach of our torches. Who knows what kind of creatures might be hiding down here in the depths? But Varikka seems determined to press on, her jaw set with grim resolve as she forges ahead through the water. I have no choice but to follow, my boots splashing softly against the stone as we make our way towards whatever dangers may lie ahead.
As I struggle to my feet in the shallow pool, water sloshing around my boots, my mind races to assess our dire situation. The hidden lake stretches out before us, its still surface broken only by the occasional ripple from our torchlight. In the distance, I can make out the vague shapes of stalactites and stalagmites rising from the depths, their twisted forms casting long shadows across the water. Merrin is already on her feet beside me, her eyes scanning the chamber with a mix of awe and dread. "We need to keep moving," she says, her voice low and urgent. "We don't know how long this place will stay stable."

The water rises higher with each step, and I can feel the icy cold seeping into my bones. But even that is nothing compared to the dread that clutches at my heart as we venture deeper into this ancient, forgotten place. Who knows what secrets and horrors may be lurking just beneath the surface, waiting to drag us down into the depths? But we can't go back now. The chamber behind us is crumbling, the water rising fast. Our only hope is to push forward, to find some way out of this nightmare before it's too late. And so we keep moving, one step at a time, our hearts pounding and our breaths coming in short, sharp gasps as we try to find our way to safety in this labyrinth of stone and water and madness.
