Round 318 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin launches herself forward, the tentacled horror's central mass shudders, causing the entire chamber to shake violently. A section of the wall near Varrika collapses, sending her tumbling to the ground, but she quickly scrambles to safety. The creature's tendrils wrap around the remains of the wall, holding it in place. The water level rises further, and Merrin struggles to maintain her footing as the floor becomes increasingly slippery. The chamber is now filled with an eerie, greenish glow emanating from the creature's body. Its eyes seem to burn brighter, and its maw opens wider, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth. The air is thick with the stench of rotting flesh and decay. Varrika's crossbow lies nearby, partially buried in the rubble, but it's unclear if she can retrieve it in time.
I feel the chamber shake violently as I launch myself at the tentacled horror. A section of the wall near Varikka collapses, sending her tumbling to the ground. I hear her cry out in pain, but there's no time to check on her. The creature's tendrils wrap around the remains of the wall, holding it in place as the water level rises further. I struggle to maintain my footing, my boots slipping on the increasingly wet and treacherous floor. The air is thick with the stench of rotting flesh and decay, and an eerie greenish glow emanates from the creature's body, making it even harder to see. I aim my crossbow at the beast's central mass, my hands trembling as I try to steady my aim. I know that I'm outmatched and outnumbered, but I also know that I can't let this thing get any closer to Varikka. She's counting on me to protect her, and I won't let her down. I take a deep breath, trying to calm the pounding of my heart in my chest. The creature's eyes seem to bore into my very soul, and its maw opens wider, revealing rows of razor-sharp teeth that look like they could tear through flesh and bone with ease. But I don't have time to be afraid. I have to act now, before it's too late. I squeeze the trigger of my crossbow, sending a bolt flying towards the creature's central mass.
I see Merrin's crossbow bolt strike true, piercing the creature's central mass. For a moment, I think we might have a chance. But then the beast lets out an ear-splitting shriek, and its tendrils lash out wildly, sending chunks of stone and debris flying through the air. I manage to dodge most of it, but a large piece of rubble catches me in the shoulder, sending me staggering backwards. The water level continues to rise, and I can feel the cold, slimy floor beneath my boots. Merrin struggles to maintain her footing as well, her crossbow now raised and ready to fire again. But the creature is moving faster than before, its tendrils thrashing about in a frenzy of pain and rage. I know we can't keep this up forever. We need to find a way out of here, and fast. But with the water rising and the entire chamber shaking from the creature's movements, it's becoming increasingly difficult to even think straight, let alone formulate a plan. I glance over at Merrin, seeing the determination in her eyes as she takes aim at the beast once more. I want to tell her to be careful, to watch out for the falling debris, but I know she can handle herself. We both have to focus on surviving this if we want to make it out alive. I take a deep breath, trying to steady my nerves as I grip my weapon tighter. The creature looms before us, its eyes blazing with an otherworldly light and its maw gaping open in a permanent snarl. But I refuse to back down. Merrin is counting on me, and I won't let her face this thing alone. I launch myself forward, aiming my crossbow at the creature's central mass once more. I know it's a risk, but I have to trust that Merrin will watch my back while I try to take this thing down. It's our only chance. As I fire my weapon, I can only hope that we're not too late. That there's still a way out of this nightmare, and that we'll both make it out alive. But with each passing moment, the odds seem to be stacking against us, and the only thing I can do is keep fighting until my last breath.
