Round 301 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin and Varikka stand on the ledge, they hear a faint splashing noise coming from the chamber below. The water pressure continues to rise, and the sound grows louder, as if something is swimming through the rising waters. Suddenly, a tentacled horror emerges from the depths, its eyes fixed on the pair above. The creature's tentacles flail wildly, threatening to knock them off the ledge. Merrin and Varikka exchange a terrified glance, their hands instinctively reaching for their blades. The key in Merrin's pocket seems to burn with an urgent intensity, as if it's trying to tell them something. With the creature mere feet away, they must decide how to proceed: do they try to fend off the horror with their blades, or use the key to unlock a hidden door that might provide a safer escape route?
I freeze as the tentacled horror emerges from the depths, its eyeless gaze fixed on us with unnerving intensity. My hand darts to the key in my pocket, the metal warm against my palm as if it's responding to the creature's presence. I glance at Varikka, her face set and determined even as fear flashes in her eyes. "We can't fight this thing," I hiss, my voice barely audible over the rushing water. "Not here, not like this."
I shine the torch around the ledge, looking for any sign of a hidden door or escape route. But the walls are slick with moisture, and the shadows dance and twist in the flickering light, making it impossible to be sure of anything. The creature's tentacles flail wildly, threatening to knock us off our precarious perch at any moment. I can feel the key burning against my skin, its presence a constant reminder of the danger that still lurks in this accursed tower. But as I watch the horror advance, I realize that we don't have time to search for a hidden door. We need to act now, or risk being swept away by the rising waters - or worse, becoming the creature's next meal. I turn to Varikka, my face set with grim determination. "We need to move," I say, my voice tight with urgency. "Follow me, and stay close."
And with that, I turn and run, my boots slipping on the slick stone as I race along the ledge, the torch held high in one hand and the key clutched tightly in the other. The creature's tentacles lash out behind us, missing us by inches as we dodge and weave through the narrowing passage. The water rises faster now, threatening to swallow us whole at any moment, but I don't dare look back. All I can do is run, my heart pounding in my chest as I pray to whatever gods might be listening that we'll find a way out of this nightmare before it's too late. I can hear Varikka panting behind me, her footsteps splashing through the rising water as she struggles to keep up. But I don't slow my pace, knowing that every second counts in this race against the encroaching darkness and the hungry horror that stalks us from the depths. The key feels like a brand against my skin, its presence a constant reminder of the secret it holds - and the danger it might yet bring. But even as I run, I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched, that unseen eyes are tracking our every move through the shadowed corridors of this accursed tower. And I know, deep in my bones, that whatever lies ahead, it's going to test us in ways we can't yet imagine. All we can do is keep moving forward, one step at a time, and hope that the key will lead us to something better than the horrors we've already faced. For now, though, all I can do is run, my lungs burning and my legs aching as I push myself to the limit, driven by the primal urge to survive - no matter the cost. The water laps at my heels, its icy grip a constant reminder of the danger that lurks just beneath the surface. But I don't let it slow me down. I keep running, keep fighting, keep hoping for a miracle - even as the darkness closes in around us and the tower groans ominously overhead, threatening to come crashing down at any moment. I know that we're far from safe, but for now, all I can do is keep moving forward - and pray that whatever lies ahead, it won't be as terrifying as what we've already faced.
