Round 290 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin scrambles to Varikka's side, her eyes fixed on the rusty pipe that seems to be pulling her friend into the darkness. The tentacled horror hisses menacingly, its bioluminescent markings pulsating with an otherworldly energy. As Merrin reaches out to grab Varikka's arm, the ground beneath them gives a deafening creak, and the water pressure surges forward, threatening to pull them both under. Varikka's grip on Merrin's arm tightens, her eyes wide with fear. "Merrin, we have to get out of here now!" she cries, her voice barely audible over the rushing water. The pipe's surface seems to be growing slicker by the second, making it increasingly difficult for Merrin to maintain a grip. With a surge of adrenaline, Merrin must decide whether to try and pull Varikka to safety or attempt to pry the pipe loose from her friend's grasp.
I grab Varikka's arm with both hands, my muscles straining as I try to pull her away from the rusty pipe. The slime coating the metal makes it nearly impossible to get a good grip, but I refuse to let go. "Hold on, Varikka!" I shout over the roar of the rushing water. "I've got you!"
But as I tug at my friend's arm, I can feel the ground beneath us giving way, the stone crumbling under the relentless pressure of the rising waters. The tentacled horror hisses menacingly from the shadows, its bioluminescent markings pulsing with an otherworldly energy. I know that we have only a few precious seconds before the entire structure comes crashing down around us. With a grunt of effort, I redouble my efforts, pulling Varikka towards the narrow ledge that runs along the side of the pit. The water is up to our waists now, and I can feel the current tugging at my legs, threatening to pull me under at any moment. But I refuse to give in. With a final burst of strength, I heave Varikka onto the ledge, my hands gripping the rough stone as I scramble to join her. As we huddle together on the narrow perch, I can feel the ground shaking beneath us, the sound of falling debris echoing through the passage. The tentacled horror lets out a final hiss before retreating back into the shadows, its bioluminescent markings fading into the darkness. And as the water continues to rise around us, I know that we have to act fast if we want to survive. "We need to find a way out of here, Varikka," I say, my voice barely audible over the roar of the water. "The structure is coming down, and we can't stay here much longer."
Varikka nods, her eyes wide with fear as she clings to me for support. Together, we start to make our way along the ledge, our feet slipping on the slick stone as we search for any sign of an escape route. The water is up to our knees now, and I can feel the current tugging at my legs, threatening to pull me under at any moment. But even as we struggle to stay afloat, I know that we have to keep moving forward. Varikka's life depends on it. And no matter what dangers may lie ahead, I will not rest until I have brought her to safety.
