Round 288 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin finishes her final strike at the creature's tentacles, the ground beneath her feet gives way with a deafening crack. She feels herself being pulled down into the pit trap, the water closing over her head like a suffocating shroud. The tentacled horror retreats back into the shadows, its bioluminescent markings fading into darkness. Merrin struggles to stay afloat, her lungs burning from lack of oxygen. She kicks out with her legs, but the water pressure is too great, and she's dragged down into the depths of the pit trap. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and she feels herself being pulled towards the center of the pit, where the water pressure is greatest. Suddenly, Merrin's hand brushes against something solid - a rusty old pipe, partially buried in the muck at the bottom of the pit.
I claw at the rusty pipe, my fingernails scraping against the metal as I try to pull myself up and out of the water. The current is strong, threatening to drag me back down into the depths, but I refuse to give in. With a grunt of effort, I haul myself up onto the pipe, my feet scrabbling for purchase on the slick surface. The water rushes past me, swirling around my ankles as I struggle to maintain my balance. I know that I don't have much time left. The water is rising fast, and the ground beneath me is unstable. I can hear the sound of the collapsing structure above me, the creaking of the stone and the rumble of falling debris. But even in the midst of all this chaos, I can feel a sense of triumph wash over me. I've made it out of the pit trap, at least for now. But as I stand there, panting and exhausted on the pipe, I know that my struggle is far from over. Varikka is still out there somewhere, and I have to find her before it's too late. With a deep breath, I steel myself for what lies ahead, and start to make my way through the secret passage, searching for any sign of my missing companion. I feel a sense of urgency as I move through the secret passage, my heart pounding in my chest as I search for any sign of Varikka. The water continues to rise around me, threatening to pull me back down into the depths at any moment, and I know that I have only a few precious seconds left before the entire structure comes crashing down around me. But even as the danger mounts, I refuse to give up hope. I know that Varikka is out there somewhere, and I will not rest until I have found her and brought her to safety. With a determined grunt, I push myself forward, my feet splashing through the rising water as I scan the passage for any hint of movement or sound. And then, suddenly, I hear it - the faint sound of Varikka's voice, echoing through the darkness ahead of me. "Merrin!" she calls out, her tone urgent and filled with fear. "Help me!"
I know that I have to act fast. With a surge of adrenaline, I sprint forward, my heart pounding in my chest as I race towards the sound of Varikka's voice. The water is up to my waist now, and I can feel the ground shaking beneath my feet as the structure continues to collapse around me. But none of that matters. All that matters is finding Varikka and getting her out of this nightmare alive. With a final burst of speed, I charge ahead into the darkness, ready to face whatever horrors may lie in wait.
