Round 284 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin takes another step forward, the ground beneath her feet gives a loud creak, and the rising water in the pit trap and main chamber surges upward, threatening to engulf her. The Guardian's glowing eyes watch her warily, its expression unreadable. Suddenly, a spindly hand emerges from the secret passage, reaching out towards Merrin with an ethereal glow. The hand closes in on Merrin's arm, its slimy surface making her skin crawl. With a surge of adrenaline, she swings her dagger in a wide arc, striking at the creature. The blade bites deep into the creature's wrist, causing it to yelp in pain and release its grip on Merrin's arm. However, the creature's bioluminescent markings begin to spread, illuminating the dark passage and revealing a new path forward - but also revealing a hidden pit trap that has opened beneath Merrin's feet. The water pressure increases exponentially, threatening to crush Merrin as she teeters on the edge of the pit trap. The Guardian's voice echoes through the passage, "You have only a few moments to escape before the structural collapse claims you."
As the spindly hand reaches for me, its bioluminescent markings pulsing ominously, I raise my dagger with a gasp. With a swift motion, I swing the blade at the creature's wrist, feeling the satisfying bite of steel against flesh. The hand recoils, releasing its grip on my arm and leaving a trail of slimy residue behind. But before I can catch my breath, I hear a loud creak beneath my feet. In an instant, the ground gives way, and I find myself teetering on the edge of a hidden pit trap, the rising water surging upward to engulf me. My heart pounds in my chest as I struggle to maintain my balance, my fingers scrabbling for purchase on the slick stone. The Guardian's voice echoes through the passage, "You have only a few moments to escape before the structural collapse claims you." With a surge of panic, I lash out with my dagger, trying to find a handhold or a ledge to pull myself up and out of this watery grave.
