Round 274 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin pulls the stone block into place, it lets out a loud creaking sound, and the staircase shudders ominously. The block is heavy enough to support the weight of the stairs, but it's clear that it won't hold for long. The water below rises another foot, and the Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash more brightly, as if sensing the precarious balance. Suddenly, a section of the ledge gives way beneath Varikka's foot, sending her tumbling towards the water with a scream. Merrin grabs for her arm, but it's too late - Varikka's hand is submerged in the water, and her body is being pulled down into the depths of the lake.
I reach out with a desperate cry as Varikka's body is pulled under the water, my fingers grasping at her arm. But it's too late - she's already gone, dragged down into the depths by some unseen horror lurking beneath the surface. I stand there for a moment, frozen in shock and disbelief, my heart pounding in my chest as I stare at the spot where she disappeared. This can't be happening. Not after everything we've been through together. Not when we were so close to finally escaping this nightmare. But there's no time to grieve now. The Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash ominously in the water below, and I know that it's only a matter of time before it comes for me too. I take a deep breath, steeling myself as I turn back towards the crumbling staircase. The stone block we wedged under the steps is still holding, but it won't last for long. I have to keep moving, have to find a way out of this labyrinth before it's too late. I start up the stairs, my hand gripping the railing tightly as I climb. The water surges below me, threatening to pull me back down at any moment, and I can hear the Tentacled Horror's eerie clicking sounds echoing through the chamber. But I don't look back. I can't afford to hesitate, not now. Not when my life depends on reaching the top of these stairs. As I climb higher and higher, I feel a sudden surge of determination welling up inside me. Varikka may be gone, but I won't let her death be in vain. I'll find a way out of this hellhole, no matter what it takes. And when I do, I'll make sure that everyone responsible for this nightmare pays the price. The stairs creak ominously beneath my feet, and I know that I'm running out of time. But I keep climbing, my muscles burning with effort as I pull myself up the crumbling steps. The water rises with each passing moment, surging higher and higher until it's lapping at my ankles, then my knees, then my waist. And still I climb, my heart pounding in my chest as I near the top of the staircase. Just a little further, I tell myself, my breath coming in ragged gasps. Just a little further and I'll be free.
