Round 273 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

Merrin's hand tightens around Varikka's as she pulls her back onto the ledge, steadying her against her side. "Easy there," she pants, her heart pounding from the close call. The water below rises another foot, threatening to engulf them at any moment. As they catch their breath, Merrin glances down at the water and sees the Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flashing ominously in the depths. The sound of shifting stone and creaking wooden beams grows louder with each passing moment, filling the air around them like a death knell. Varikka's eyes are wide with fear, her hand still trembling in Merrin's grasp. The ledge creaks ominously beneath their feet, and the heavy mace in Merrin's hand feels like a weight, a futile attempt to stem the tide of destruction. The structural collapse is getting closer, and Merrin knows they must find a way to stabilize the staircase before it's too late.
I grip Varikka's hand tightly as we edge along the ledge, my heart pounding with each step. The water surges below us, threatening to pull us in at any moment, and the Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash ominously in the depths. But I can't let that happen. Not when Varikka is depending on me to keep her safe. As we move closer to the crumbling staircase, I scan the ledge for anything that might help us brace it before it collapses completely. The sound of shifting stone and creaking wooden beams grows louder with each passing moment, filling the air around us like a death knell. I know we're running out of time. Suddenly, my eye catches on a large stone block jutting out from the wall just ahead. It looks heavy, but maybe if we can wedge it under the staircase, it might buy us enough time to climb to safety. "Varikka," I say urgently, pointing to the block. "Help me move that stone. We need to brace the staircase before it's too late."
I let go of her hand and crouch down, my fingers digging into the cracks in the stone as I try to pry it loose. The water rises another foot, threatening to engulf us at any moment. But I can't think about that now. All that matters is keeping Varikka safe and finding a way out of this nightmare alive. With a grunt of effort, I heave on the block, feeling it shift ever so slightly in the wall. "Come on," I mutter under my breath, my muscles straining as I pull with all my might. "Just a little more..."
I glance over at Varikka, my eyes meeting hers as we work together to move the stone. And in that moment, I see the same determination in her gaze that I feel burning in my own heart. We may be trapped in this underground labyrinth, but we're not going down without a fight.
