As Merrin and Varikka continue along the narrow ledge, they notice that the water below has risen another foot, threatening to engulf them at any moment. The structural collapse is getting closer, and Merrin knows they must find a concrete solution to stabilize the staircase before it's too late. Suddenly, Varikka loses her footing on the slippery stone path and tumbles towards the water, her hand reaching out desperately for Merrin's. The sound of shifting stone and creaking wooden beams echoes through the chamber, growing louder with each passing moment. Immediate pressure: Merrin must act quickly to catch Varikka before she falls into the water, while also searching for a way to stabilize the staircase.

I reach out instinctively, my hand grasping Varikka's just in time as she stumbles on the slippery stone. With a grunt of effort, I pull her back onto the ledge, steadying her against my side. "Easy there," I pant, my heart pounding from the close call. "We can't afford to fall in, not with that horror still lurking below."

I glance down at the water, my eyes scanning the surface for any sign of movement. But all I see is the bioluminescent markings of the Tentacled Horror, flashing ominously in the depths. I know we can't stay here, not with the structural collapse getting closer by the second and the water rising ever higher. "Varikka," I say urgently, my voice strained with effort. "We need to keep moving. There's got to be a way to brace that staircase before it collapses completely."

I edge forward along the ledge, my hand still gripping Varikka's tightly as we make our way towards the crumbling steps. The sound of shifting stone and creaking wooden beams grows louder with each passing moment, filling the air around us like a death knell. I know that if we don't find something to support the staircase soon, we'll be crushed by the falling debris or pulled down into the depths by whatever lurks beneath the surface. But I can't let that happen. Not when Varikka is depending on me to keep her safe. So I keep moving, my eyes scanning the ledge for anything that might help us brace the staircase. And as we edge closer and closer to the crumbling steps, I pray that somehow, someway, we'll find a way out of this nightmare alive.
