As Merrin and Varikka struggle to navigate the churning water, they feel a sudden jolt beneath their feet. The spikes from the rocky floor have torn through the water, causing them to lose traction. The Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash ominously in the darkness, sensing its prey's desperation. Merrin quickly assesses the situation, realizing that they need to move towards the shore as fast as possible to avoid being pulled under. However, the rising water has reached their knees, and the current is strong. Varikka's weak cry for help echoes through the water, and Merrin knows she must act quickly to save her friend. Immediate pressure: Merrin must decide whether to try to swim against the current or attempt to find a nearby ledge or outcropping to cling to, all while keeping an eye out for the Tentacled Horror's next move.

I feel my heart pounding in my chest as I struggle to keep Varikka afloat. The water is rising rapidly, now up to our knees, and the current is getting stronger by the second. I can see the jagged spikes protruding from the rocky floor beneath us, threatening to tear us apart if we lose our footing. "Hold on, Varikka!" I shout over the roar of the water. "We have to move towards the shore!"

But as we start to swim, I feel a sudden jolt beneath my feet. One of the spikes has caught on my leg, tearing through the fabric of my pants and grazing my skin. I cry out in pain, my grip on Varikka slipping for a moment. The Tentacled Horror's bioluminescent markings flash ominously in the darkness, sensing our desperation. I know we can't keep this up for long - we need to find a way to shore or risk being pulled under by the creature or the rising water. I scan the churning water frantically, looking for any sign of a ledge or outcropping that we could cling to. But all I see is the roiling surface of the lake, dotted with the hellish eyes of the creatures that lurk beneath. "Varikka, can you swim towards the shore?" I shout, trying to be heard over the shrieking of the creatures and the roar of the water. "We have to try to reach the edge before the water gets too deep!"

Varikka nods weakly, her arms still wrapped tightly around my neck as we struggle to stay afloat. Together, we begin to swim towards the distant shore, our hearts pounding in our chests as we pray that we can make it through this nightmare alive.
