Round 249 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin touches the door, it swings open with a creaking groan, revealing a narrow corridor beyond. The air inside is musty and stale, filled with the scent of decay. The corridor stretches out into darkness, punctuated by flickering torches that cast eerie shadows on the walls. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath Merrin's feet, and she finds herself plummeting down a hidden shaft, her iron bar clattering from her grasp as she falls.
I let out a startled yelp as I plummet down the hidden shaft, my arms flailing wildly in an attempt to grab onto anything that might slow my fall. But there's nothing, just smooth stone walls rushing past me in a blur of darkness. The air is cold and musty, filled with the scent of decay and something else, something ancient and malevolent. I can feel the weight of the tower pressing down on me from all sides, the ground growing closer with each passing second. And then, just as suddenly as it began, my fall comes to an abrupt end. I land hard on a soft, damp surface, the impact knocking the wind out of me. For a moment, I lie there, dazed and disoriented, trying to make sense of what just happened. As my vision swims back into focus, I find myself in a vast, underground cavern. The walls are covered in strange, glowing symbols that pulse with an otherworldly energy, casting eerie shadows across the chamber. In the center of the room, there's a massive pool of water, its surface as still and dark as a mirror. And floating atop the water, there's a small, ornate box, its surface covered in intricate carvings and runes. I push myself to my feet, wincing as I feel the bruises already forming on my legs and back. I glance around, searching for any sign of danger or threat. But the chamber seems empty, save for the strange box floating in the center of the pool. I take a tentative step forward, my boots sinking into the soft, damp soil with each footfall. The air here is heavy and oppressive, filled with a sense of ancient power and hidden dangers. I can feel the weight of the tower pressing down on me from all sides, the ground shifting and settling beneath my feet as if the very foundations of the world are unstable. I know I should be cautious, that there's no telling what horrors might lurk in this place. But I also know that I can't stay here for long. The tower is crumbling around me, and I have no idea how much time I have left before it comes tumbling down on top of me. So I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever may come. And then I start to move forward, my feet carrying me toward the strange box floating in the center of the pool. The water is dark and still, its surface as smooth as glass. But as I draw closer, I can see something moving beneath the surface, a shadowy form shifting and twisting in the depths. I pause, my heart pounding in my chest as I stare at the water. Whatever lies beneath the surface, it's not natural. And I have a feeling that opening that box is likely to unleash something terrible into the world. But I also know that I have no choice. The tower is crumbling around me, and I need to find a way out before it's too late. So I take a deep breath, my hand reaching out to grasp the edge of the box. And then, with a sense of dread and anticipation, I lift the lid and peer inside.
