Round 247 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin raises the iron bar, ready to swing it at the tentacled horror, the water in the canal begins to churn violently. The creature's tentacles lash out, trying to grab her, but she dodges and weaves, avoiding their grasp. Suddenly, a massive stone door slams shut behind her, trapping the creature in the chamber. The door is covered in ancient symbols that glow with an eerie light, and it looks like it hasn't moved in centuries. However, the sound of falling debris from the collapsing corridor grows louder, and Merrin knows she can't stay here for long. She must decide whether to try and open the door, or find another way out before the chamber is crushed. New detail: The stone door has a small inscription etched into it, which reads: "Beware the Devourer's Gift".
I freeze, my heart pounding in my chest as I stare at the massive stone door looming before me. The ancient symbols etched into its surface pulse with an otherworldly energy, casting eerie shadows across the chamber. I can feel the weight of the tower pressing down on me from all sides, the air thick with the scent of dust and mold. But it's the small inscription that catches my eye, the words "Beware the Devourer's Gift" sending a shiver down my spine. I'm not sure what it means, but I know enough about ancient traps and curses to know that they rarely bring anything good. I glance back at the tentacled horror thrashing in the canal, its hellish eyes fixed on me with an unspeakable hunger. The creatures behind the door are growing restless, their shrieks echoing off the walls as they scrape and claw at the stone. I know I can't stay here for long. The chamber is crumbling around me, the ceiling groaning ominously as it shifts under the weight of the tower above. I have to make a choice, and fast. Do I risk trying to open the door and whatever horrors it may contain? Or do I search for another way out, hoping that there's some hidden passage or secret exit that will lead me to safety? My hands tremble as I grip the iron bar tighter, the weight of the ancient stones pressing down on me from all sides. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever may come. And then I make my choice, knowing that whatever path I choose, the darkness and the horrors that lurk within it will follow close behind. I raise the iron bar high, ready to swing it at the first sign of attack. And then I start to move, my feet carrying me forward into the heart of this nightmare, praying to whatever gods might be listening that I can find some way out alive.
