Round 245 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin steps into the narrow corridor, the glowing-eyed creatures close in around her, their bioluminescent markings casting an otherworldly light on the walls. She can feel the weight of the tower's ancient stones pressing down on her, and the air is thick with dust and cobwebs. Suddenly, a faint rumbling noise echoes through the corridor, growing louder by the second. The ground begins to shake beneath Merrin's feet, and she stumbles forward, her hand reaching out for balance. Consequence: The corridor's walls start to tremble, and the sound of falling debris grows louder, threatening to collapse the passageway behind her. New detail: The air is filled with a sweet, acrid smell, like burning sulfur, as the creatures' bioluminescent markings begin to pulse in time with the rumbling noise. Immediate pressure: Merrin must decide whether to press forward into the unknown, or try to find a side passage to escape the collapsing corridor.
I gasp, stumbling as the ground shakes beneath my feet. The air fills with the choking stench of sulfur, burning my nose and throat. The creatures' bioluminescent markings pulse faster, casting wild shadows on the walls. My heart pounds against my ribs as I try to steady myself. The corridor trembles ominously, and the sound of falling debris grows louder behind me. I know I must act quickly or risk being buried alive. I glance ahead into the darkness, then back the way I came. The creatures are closing in fast, their hellish eyes fixed on me. But the passage behind is crumbling, the ancient stones giving way to the weight of the tower above. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what must be done. I raise the heavy iron bar, ready to swing it at any creature that dares to come too close. Then I turn and sprint down the corridor, my feet pounding against the rough stone floor. The darkness presses in around me, but I dare not slow my pace. I can feel the heat of the creatures' breath on my back, the scrape of their claws against the walls. But I push forward, my lungs burning with each ragged breath. Suddenly, a side passage appears ahead, barely visible in the gloom. I veer toward it without hesitation, praying to whatever gods might be listening that it leads to safety. The creatures shriek behind me, their rage echoing through the collapsing corridor. I duck into the side passage, my heart pounding in my ears. The air is thick with dust and the musty scent of ancient stone. But I dare not slow my pace, knowing that the creatures are still close behind. I run on into the darkness, the weight of the tower pressing down on me from all sides. And I pray to whatever gods might be listening that this passage leads to an escape, or at least a moment's respite from the horrors that hunt me through these endless depths.
