Merrin's makeshift club strikes true, but the blow only seems to enrage the creature further. The tentacles writhe and twist around her waist, pulling her down into the depths of the lake. A nearby chunk of rubble dislodges from the ceiling, sending debris swirling around her as it crashes down to the floor above. The water pressure increases, threatening to overwhelm Merrin's lungs at any moment. As the creature's grip tightens, the key slips further away from her grasp, lost in the churning waters. The creatures' bioluminescent markings illuminate the lake floor, casting eerie shadows on the surrounding rocks. Suddenly, a faint glow emanates from a nearby cave entrance, illuminating the dark passageway and drawing the creatures' attention towards it.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's hands grasp frantically at the tentacles, trying to untwist them from around her waist. But they're slick with water and slime, making it nearly impossible to gain purchase. She can feel the creature's strength ebbing away, but it's not enough. The weight of the water above is too much. She looks up, towards the faint glow emanating from the cave entrance. It's so far away, and yet it seems to be calling to her. Beckoning her to safety. Merrin takes a deep breath, steeling herself for what she knows she must do. With a final surge of strength, she rips free from the tentacles' grasp and swims as hard as she can towards the cave. The creatures shriek behind her, their hellish eyes boring into her back as she swims. But Merrin doesn't look back. She can't afford to. The tower is crumbling around them, and the water is rising faster than she ever thought possible. She must reach that light, must find a way out of this nightmare before it's too late. As she swims, she feels something brush against her leg in the darkness. She kicks out frantically, trying to ward off whatever creature may be lurking in the depths. But it's no use. The water is murky, and she can't see anything beneath the surface. Merrin pushes herself harder, her lungs burning for air as she swims towards that distant light. She doesn't know what awaits her in that cave, but it has to be better than drowning in this hellish lake. She swims until her arms ache, until her legs feel like lead weights dragging her down. And just when she thinks she can swim no more, she feels the water start to recede. She's reaching the shore. With a final burst of strength, Merrin drags herself out of the water and onto the rocky beach. She lies there for a moment, gasping for breath, feeling the cool air on her skin. She's alive. She's made it. But she knows she can't rest for long. The tower is still collapsing around them, and Varikka is still trapped in that pit. Merrin must find a way to save her before it's too late. She looks up at the cave entrance looming above her. It beckons her forward, promising shelter from the rising waters and the creatures that stalk the lake. But Merrin knows there are no guarantees in this hellhole. She takes a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever horrors may lie ahead. And then she steps into the darkness of the cave, ready to face whatever challenges await her within.
