Merrin stumbles through the narrow tunnel, her hands slick with water and silt as she clawed her way through the rubble. The air is thick with dust, making it hard to see more than a few feet ahead. She can hear the sound of falling debris echoing behind her, the chamber collapsing into the depths of the lake. As she rounds a bend in the tunnel, a faint light catches her eye - a small opening high up on the wall, partially hidden by the rubble. It looks like it might be big enough for her to squeeze through. But as she approaches the opening, she hears a faint scuttling noise coming from the other side.

I freeze as I hear the scuttling noise coming from beyond the opening, my heart pounding in my chest. I grip the crowbar tightly, ready to strike if anything tries to come through. The sound grows louder, more insistent, and I brace myself for whatever horrors might emerge from the darkness.

Suddenly, a small, furry creature bursts through the opening, startling me back with a yelp. It's a rat, its eyes glinting in the dim light as it scurries across the floor of the tunnel. For a moment, I'm frozen in place, my mind racing with thoughts of the larger creatures that lurk in these depths.

But then I shake myself, realizing that this is my chance to escape. I take a deep breath and start to climb through the opening, my hands and feet searching for purchase on the rough stone. The rat scurries away, disappearing into the shadows as I pull myself through the narrow gap.

As I emerge on the other side, I find myself in a small chamber, its walls lined with ancient carvings and strange symbols. In the center of the room is a pedestal, upon which rests an ornate key. I approach it cautiously, my senses on high alert for any signs of danger.

The key looks old, its surface tarnished with age. But as I reach out to take it, I hesitate. What if this is some kind of trap? What if taking the key triggers some hidden mechanism that will bring the entire chamber down around me?

I take a step back, my mind racing with possibilities. Do I risk taking the key, or do I leave it and continue on my way? The decision seems impossible, but I know that I can't stay here forever. I have to make a choice, and I have to act now.

With a deep breath, I reach out and grasp the key, feeling its weight in my hand. It's cold to the touch, and for a moment I wonder if I've made a terrible mistake. But then I hear a low rumble from somewhere deep beneath my feet, and I know that I have no choice but to keep moving forward.
