Varikka's torch flickers in the face of the advancing creatures, casting eerie shadows on the water. She takes a step back, her eyes fixed on the opening in the wall across the lake. Merrin grabs her arm, pulling her close. "Come on, Varikka! We need to move!" Merrin shouts over the din of rushing water and the creatures' guttural growls. Seraphine, still entranced by the ancient symbol, stumbles forward, her eyes unfocused. She nearly falls into the water before Merrin catches her, pulling her back. The water level has risen another foot, and the lake is now waist-deep in some areas. The creatures are closing in, their bioluminescent markings pulsing brighter as they sense their prey.
