As Merrin pushes Varikka and Seraphine to safety just in time, the massive stone slab crashes down behind them, sending a wave of water and debris crashing into the lake. The sound of the impact echoes through the chamber, and the ground trembles beneath their feet. Varikka looks back to see the creature they were trying to fend off now mere inches from where the slab once was, its bioluminescent markings glowing faintly on the wet stone. The water level has risen significantly since the slab fell, and the lake is now almost waist-deep in some areas. The air is filled with the stench of damp earth and decaying organic matter. A faint hum, like the reverberation of a thousand humming engines, begins to emanate from deeper within the lake, growing louder by the second.

I help Varikka and Seraphine to their feet, my heart racing as I take in the scene around us. The water is still rising rapidly, and I can see more of those glowing-eyed creatures emerging from the depths, their bioluminescent markings pulsing ominously in the darkness.

I reach for my crossbow, but it's gone, lost somewhere in the churning water behind me. I curse under my breath, realizing I'm left with only my wits and whatever weapons I can scavenge from the ruins of the tower around us.

I know it's a slim hope, but it's all we have right now. I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever comes next. With Varikka and Seraphine by my side, I move forward into the darkness, ready to face whatever dangers await us in the depths of this underwater tomb.
