Round 179 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka readies her crossbow, the tentacled horror closes in, its massive bulk mere feet behind them. Seraphine spots a small, glowing fungal growth on the wall, partially hidden by a tangle of vines. She whispers, "I think I can use this to create an illusion. If I focus my magic, the creature might be distracted long enough for us to escape." Merrin nods, her eyes fixed on the rear, as she scans for any sign of the horror's approach. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath their feet, and they find themselves sliding down a steep chute, the water rushing past them in a white blur. The tentacled horror is momentarily stunned, its attention diverted from the trio. They tumble through the darkness, the sound of rushing water growing fainter with each passing moment. When they finally come to a stop, they find themselves in a large underwater chamber, the ceiling lost in darkness. The water pressure is intense, and the air is stale. A faint glow emanates from the walls, casting an eerie light over the scene.
I gasp as we tumble down the chute, the water rushing past us in a white blur. For a moment, I feel weightless, my body spinning through the darkness. Then, with a sickening thud, we come to a stop at the bottom of the chute.
I struggle to my feet, my head pounding from the impact. The chamber we find ourselves in is massive, the ceiling lost in the darkness above. The air is stale and heavy, and I can feel the pressure of the water pushing against my skin.
I scan the area, looking for any signs of danger. The walls glow with a faint, ethereal light, casting eerie shadows across the room. I see Varikka and Seraphine struggling to their feet nearby, their faces etched with pain and exhaustion.
I know that we can't stay here for long. The tentacled horror could be right behind us, and I have no doubt that it will stop at nothing to claim its prey. With a deep breath, I turn to the others, my voice hushed but urgent. "We need to keep moving. There's no telling what could be lurking in this chamber."
I take a step forward, my hand tightening on the hilt of my mace. The water churns around our legs, and I can feel the weight of my sodden clothes dragging me down. But I know that we have no choice but to push on, to find a way out of this underwater labyrinth before it's too late.
I gasp for air, my lungs burning from the sudden immersion in the cold, dark water. As I struggle to my feet, my head spinning from the fall, I look around at our new surroundings. The chamber we find ourselves in is massive, its ceiling lost in the darkness above us. A faint, ethereal glow emanates from the walls, casting strange patterns of light and shadow across the room.
I can feel the pressure of the water pushing against my skin, heavy and oppressive. My robes, now completely soaked, cling to me like a second skin, weighing me down. I take a shaky breath, trying to calm the frantic beating of my heart.
"I... I think we should try to find an exit," I say, my voice strained as I survey the chamber for any signs of a way out. The idea of being trapped beneath all this water is terrifying, and I can feel a sense of panic beginning to rise in my chest.*
I take a few hesitant steps forward, the water churning around my legs. I know that we need to keep moving, to find a way back to the surface before it's too late. But the thought of what might be lurking in this dark chamber is almost enough to make me freeze in place.
Suddenly, a loud splash echoes through the water behind us, and I spin around just in time to see the massive form of the tentacled horror emerging from the darkness. It looms over us, its bulbous eyes fixed on our position. With a scream, I raise my mace, ready to strike if necessary.
But even as I prepare myself for battle, I know that we are outmatched. The creature is simply too large, too powerful. Our only hope now is to find a way out of this chamber, and fast. I turn back to Varikka and Merrin, my expression grim.
"We need to keep moving," I call out, my voice shaking with a mixture of fear and determination. "There has to be an exit somewhere in this place."
