Round 170 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Varikka pushes the stone slab, it creaks louder, threatening to collapse. Merrin and Seraphine strain against her, their faces set in determination. With a final heave, the slab crashes into place, sealing off the water's edge and temporarily stalling the rising tide. However, the slab's movement has triggered a series of loud groans from the structural collapse, causing the ground to shudder beneath their feet. The trio's grip on the slab falters, and for an instant, they teeter on the brink of losing their precarious balance. The glowing-eyed creatures, undeterred by the temporary reprieve, continue to close in, their bioluminescent markings casting an ominous glow across the water. With the structural collapse intensifying, Merrin's voice is laced with urgency: "We need to find a way to stabilize this area, now!" Seraphine's eyes dart towards the newly created barrier, while Varikka scans the surrounding rocks for any sign of a safe passage. The air is heavy with tension as they face the daunting task ahead.
I quickly scan our surroundings, my eyes darting between the newly created barrier and the ominous glow of the creatures' markings. The slab seems to have bought us some time, but the ground is still shuddering beneath our feet, threatening to collapse at any moment. I can feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, my heart pounding in my chest as I try to think of a way out of this mess. "Alright," I say, my voice filled with grim determination. "We need to find a way to stabilize this area, now." I glance over at Seraphine and Varikka, my eyes searching their faces for any sign of hope. "Any ideas?" I ask, my tone urgent as I wait for their response. As we stand there, the creatures continue to circle, their bioluminescent markings casting an eerie glow across the water. I can feel the fear rising in my throat, the urge to run and hide as they get closer and closer. But I know that's not an option. We have to stand our ground, to fight for our lives if we want to make it out of this alive. I grip my mace tighter, my knuckles white with tension. This is it, I think, my heart pounding in my chest. This is the moment we've been preparing for all along.
And with that, I turn to face the creatures, my body tense and ready for battle. Let's see what these things are made of, I think, a grim smile on my face. And let's hope we're stronger than they are.
I watch as Varikka pushes the stone slab with all her strength, my own muscles straining as I join in the effort. The sound of grinding rock fills the air, followed by a deafening crack that seems to shake the very foundations of the chamber. For a moment, I hold my breath, waiting to see if our desperate plan will hold. When the slab finally slams shut with an ominous thud, sealing off the water's edge, a small measure of relief washes over me. But it is short-lived; the ground beneath us continues to tremble, and the groans of collapsing stone echo all around us. My eyes dart towards the newly created barrier, a fragile line of defense against the rising tide. The creatures continue their eerie circling, their bioluminescent markings painting the darkness in a haunting glow. I can feel their presence, a palpable hunger that makes my skin crawl. We've bought ourselves some time, I think, my mind racing as I try to formulate a plan. But not much.
Seraphine's question hangs in the air, and I turn to face her, my expression grim. "We need to find a way to reinforce this area," I say, my voice calm despite the chaos swirling around us. "A temporary solution, at least until we can find a path out of here."
