Round 168 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin collapses beside Seraphine, Varikka takes a step back, her eyes scanning the water's edge for any sign of movement. The tentacled horror is still thrashing in the distance, its bioluminescent markings casting an eerie glow across the surrounding rocks. Suddenly, a group of glowing-eyed creatures emerges from the depths, their markings illuminating the water as they begin to circle the trio. Merrin's eyes lock onto Varikka, her expression grim. "We need to keep moving," she repeats, her voice barely above a whisper. "We can't afford to let our guard down again." Seraphine nods in agreement, her hand still grasping Merrin's as she helps her sit up. Varikka glances around frantically, her gaze darting between the water and the emerging creatures. She knows they need to get to higher ground, but the rising water and structural instability make every step a perilous one. "We have to find a way to stabilize this area," she says, her voice filled with determination. "If we can create a temporary barrier or find a safe passage, we might be able to escape."
The creatures begin to close in, their glowing eyes fixed on the trio like predators sensing prey. The air is charged with tension as the party faces a daunting decision: keep trying to escape the lake's depths or risk everything to find a way to stabilize the area and potentially outsmart the emerging threats.
I look up at Varikka, my eyes wide with fear as I see the glowing-eyed creatures emerging from the water. We're in trouble, I think, my heart pounding in my chest. Those things... they look hungry. And there's too many of them.
I glance around frantically, my mind racing as I try to think of a way out of this mess. The rising water and the unstable ground make every option seem like a risk. But staying here... that's an even bigger risk. I turn to Seraphine, my voice barely above a whisper. "We need to keep moving," I tell her urgently. "We can't afford to let our guard down again."
She nods, her hand still grasping mine as she helps me to my feet. I can feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, my body tensed and ready for action. But I know we're not going to be able to fight our way out of this one. We need a plan. I look at Varikka, my eyes searching her face for any sign of hope. "Varikka, we need to find a way to stabilize this area," I say, my voice filled with determination. "If we can create a temporary barrier or find a safe passage, we might be able to escape."
She nods, her eyes scanning the surroundings as she tries to find a solution. I can see the desperation in her gaze, the knowledge that we're running out of time. We have to do something, I think, my mind racing as I try to come up with a plan. The creatures begin to close in, their glowing eyes fixed on us like predators sensing prey. I can feel the fear rising in my throat, the urge to run and hide as they get closer and closer. But I know that's not an option. We have to stand our ground, to fight for our lives if we want to make it out of this alive. I grip my mace tighter, my knuckles white with tension. This is it, I think, my heart pounding in my chest. This is the moment we've been preparing for all along.
I look at Seraphine and Varikka, my eyes filled with determination. "We're in this together," I tell them, my voice steady and sure. "No matter what happens, we face it as a team."
And with that, I turn to face the creatures, my body tense and ready for battle. Let's see what these things are made of, I think, a grim smile on my face. And let's hope we're stronger than they are.
