The DM's eyes widen in alarm as the creature's tentacles close in around the party. The water churns and foams around it, the bioluminescent algae pulsing with an eerie blue light that seems to grow brighter with each passing second. Seraphine's staff glows with a faint, desperate energy as she chants a spell, but it's no match for the creature's power. The DM knows they need to act fast - the structural collapse is getting closer, and the party's time is running out. "We have to get Merrin out of here, now!" the DM exclaims, voice echoing off the chamber walls. "Varikka, can you use your Crossbow to blast a hole in the water and pull her to safety?"

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

I grit my teeth as Seraphine's spell fizzles out against the creature's overwhelming power. The water is up to my chest now, the icy cold seeping into my bones as the tentacles writhe and coil around me. I can feel them tugging at my limbs, threatening to pull me under at any moment. But even as the fear rises in my throat, I force myself to stay focused. We have a chance here, a slim but real possibility of escape if we act fast enough. And so, with a desperate cry, I raise my mace and swing it with all my might, aiming for the creature's exposed flank. The blow lands with a sickening crunch, the iron head of my weapon sinking deep into the horror's flesh. For a moment, the tentacles loosen their grip, the creature roaring in pain as it thrashes and writhes in the churning water. I don't hesitate. With a burst of strength born of sheer desperation, I wrench my mace free and stagger back, my muscles burning with the effort. The water is up to my shoulders now, and I can feel the pull of its current, threatening to drag me down into the depths at any moment. But I won't let that happen. Not when there's still a chance, however slim, of escape. I turn to Seraphine, my eyes wide with fear and determination. "We need to get out of here, now!" I shout, my voice barely audible over the roar of the water and the creature's enraged thrashing. "Varikka, can you use your Crossbow to blast a hole in the water and pull me to safety?"

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

Seraphine's heart hammers against her ribs as she watches Merrin fight for her life against the monstrous creature. The water churns around them, the bioluminescent algae casting an eerie glow that seems to pulse in time with the horror’s thrashing. She can see the terror in Merrin's eyes, the desperate strength in her muscles as she wrests herself free from one of the tentacles. "Varikka!" Seraphine calls out, her voice strained but firm. "Your Crossbow! If we can create an opening, I may be able to conjure a spell to pull Merrin to safety!"
She turns to Merrin, her gaze locking with the rogue's. "Hold on, Merrin! We're going to get you out of there!"
Seraphine begins to mutter under her breath, her fingers tracing intricate patterns in the air as she prepares a spell. The arcane energy crackles around her hands, a faint blue light that seems to push back against the oppressive darkness of the chamber. She knows time is running out – the water is rising rapidly, and the creature's strength seems only to be growing. I have to do something more, she thinks, her mind racing as she frantically searches through her repertoire of spells. A summoning... yes, a familiar! It might be able to reach Merrin if I can just get it close enough!
She takes a deep breath, her concentration absolute as she begins the incantation. The air around her shimmers, and suddenly, a small, sleek shape appears at her side – a black cat, its eyes glowing with an otherworldly intelligence. Seraphine points to Merrin, her voice rising above the roar of the water. "Go! Find Merrin and bring her back to us!"
The cat leaps into action, its form blurring as it streaks through the water towards Merrin. Seraphine watches, her heart in her throat, as the familiar swims with surprising speed and agility, its body cutting through the churning current like a knife. Please be enough, she prays silently, her eyes never leaving the desperate struggle in the water. Please save her.
