As we reach the far side of the bridge, Seraphine's legs buckle beneath her, and she falls to her knees, gasping for breath. I catch her by the elbow, supporting her weight, as the water continues to rise around us, threatening to sweep us away. The creatures closing in behind us seem to sense our weakness, their bioluminescent eyes fixed on us with an unnerving intensity. Suddenly, a loud crack echoes through the tunnel, and the ground gives way beneath our feet. The bridge collapses, sending us tumbling into the churning water below. I manage to grab onto a nearby rock face, clinging to it for dear life as the water rushes past me. Seraphine's grip on my arm goes limp, and she slips away, her body disappearing into the depths of the lake. The water is icy cold, and I can feel its weight pulling me down, threatening to drag me under. I know I have to act fast if I want to save Seraphine.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

The bridge collapses beneath my feet, sending me tumbling into the icy water below. I manage to grab onto a nearby rock face, clinging to it for dear life as the water rushes past me. Seraphine's grip on my arm goes limp, and she slips away, her body disappearing into the churning depths of the lake. No!

I cry out, reaching for her, but it's too late. She's gone, swallowed by the darkness and the rising water. The cold seeps into my bones, and I can feel its weight pulling me down, threatening to drag me under as well. Think, Merrin, I tell myself, my teeth chattering as I struggle to stay afloat. There has to be a way out of this.

I look around wildly, my eyes darting from the crumbling walls to the swirling water and back again. And then I see it - a small, dark opening in the rock face, just above the surface of the water. It's barely visible in the gloom, but it could be a way out. It's our only chance, I think, striking out towards the opening with desperate strokes. The current is strong, and I can feel it pulling at my limbs, trying to drag me under. But I fight against it, pushing myself onwards with every ounce of strength I have left. As I near the opening, I can see that it's more than just a small hole in the rock. It's a tunnel, leading upwards into the darkness. And as I pull myself into its relative safety, I can hear the sound of rushing water growing fainter behind me. We made it, I think, gasping for breath as I collapse onto the damp ground of the tunnel. For now, at least.

But I know our troubles are far from over. Seraphine is still out there somewhere, and Varikka too. And the tower is still collapsing around us, the sound of groaning stone and crumbling masonry echoing through the passages. We need to keep moving, I tell myself, hauling myself to my feet with a groan. We can't stop now. Not when we're so close to the end.

I take a deep breath, steeling myself for whatever lies ahead. And then I step into the darkness of the tunnel, my heart pounding in my chest as I follow its winding path deeper into the bowels of the tower. The Time-Splitting Sword awaits, I think, my hand reaching for the heavy mace at my hip. And I'll be damned if I let it slip through our fingers now.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

Icy water fills my lungs as I struggle to breathe, the shock of it jolting through me. My legs feel heavy, numb from the cold, but I have to keep moving. Seraphine! Her name echoes in my mind like a scream trapped behind glass. She slipped away so easily, swallowed by the churning depths of this accursed lake. A fresh wave of panic crashes over me, hot and sharp. I can't lose her too. Not like Jeane, not like Halie. Not Seraphine.
My fingers scrabble against the slick stone wall as I pull myself up onto a ledge, gasping for air that won't come. The world spins around me, the sounds of the collapsing tower and the roaring water merging into a deafening roar. But then, through the haze of fear, a glimmer of hope. There, just ahead, a small opening in the rock face, barely visible in the gloom. A way out? Or another trap waiting to be sprung?
I have no choice. With a desperate burst of energy, I launch myself towards it, my arms and legs thrashing against the water. It's a struggle, each movement feeling leaden and useless against the current's pull, but I won't stop. I can’t stop. Not until I find Seraphine. The opening looms closer, a dark promise in the oppressive darkness of this place.
As I near it, I see that it’s more than just a small hole. It's a tunnel, leading upwards into the unknown. And as I pull myself into its relative safety, I can hear the sound of rushing water growing fainter behind me. We made it. For now, at least.
