Round 148 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As I watch in horror, Merrin and Varikka are pulled further away from the shore. The current is too strong, and they're being swept towards the depths of the lake. Suddenly, a large tentacle erupts from the darkness, wrapping around Varikka's waist. She screams as the tentacle tightens, pulling her towards the monster. I try to call out for help, but my voice is lost in the rushing water. The tentacle drags Varikka deeper into the lake, and Merrin struggles to keep up. The water is getting colder by the second, and I can see the fear in her eyes as she tries to pull Varikka back to safety. The glowing eyes of the creatures in the depths are fixed on us, their light pulsing in rhythm with the waves. I know we have to act fast, or risk losing Varikka to this monster.
I wade through the frigid water, my muscles burning from exertion as I fight against the relentless current. The icy water laps at my chest, numbing my limbs as it threatens to sweep me away at any moment. But I can't stop. Not now. Not when Varikka is in danger. "Varikka!" I shout, my voice hoarse and strained as I struggle to make my way towards her. She's being pulled deeper into the lake by some unseen force, a large tentacle wrapping around her waist and dragging her under the surface. "Hold on! I'm coming!"
I lunge forward, my arms outstretched, reaching for her with every ounce of strength I have left. My fingers brush against hers, but the current is too strong. I can feel myself being pulled away from her, the water churning around us like a raging torrent. "Merrin!" Seraphine's voice echoes through the chamber, distant and muffled by the rushing water. "The Devourer! It's coming!"
I ignore her warning, my focus entirely on reaching Varikka. I can't let her drown. Not after everything we've been through. I redouble my efforts, swimming with all my might towards where she disappeared beneath the surface. But the water is getting colder by the second, and I can feel my strength fading. My limbs are heavy, sluggish from the cold, and it's getting harder and harder to stay afloat. I know I don't have much time left before the exhaustion overtakes me completely. I reach out again, my hand grasping at the water where Varikka was last seen. There's nothing there, just the icy cold and the endless darkness. I want to scream, to cry out for help, but I know it's no use. No one can hear us down here, and even if they could, there's nothing anyone can do. I'm on my own now, fighting for both our lives against a force that seems determined to claim us as its own. And as the water rises higher, threatening to sweep me away, I refuse to let go. I will fight until my last breath, until my last ounce of strength. Even if it means sacrificing myself to save Varikka. Because that's what we do. We look out for each other, no matter the cost. And right now, Varikka needs me more than ever.
