Round 145 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin wades into the water to reach Varikka, Seraphine finally manages to stumble free from the creature's grasp. She clings to the rusty iron bar, her eyes fixed on Varikka as she swims towards Merrin. The young wizard's movements are slow and labored, but she manages to keep afloat, her body battered by the water's force. The Devourer of Light draws closer, its presence palpable in the chamber. The air thickens with an otherworldly energy, and the glowing eyes of the lake creatures seem to be watching the party members with an unnerving intensity. A new sound echoes through the chamber - the gentle lapping of water against stone, growing louder with each passing moment. Seraphine's gaze never leaves Varikka as she swims closer to Merrin, her voice hoarse from the exertion. "Merrin...help me...the Devourer..."
By the gods, we're in trouble now. I watch as Varikka stumbles through the rising water, her movements slow and uncoordinated. Seraphine's trying to get to her feet, but she's moving like she's wading through molasses. And that creature - it's still thrashing about, even with a boulder-sized dent in its skull. I can see the glow from the depths of the lake getting brighter, pulsing like a heartbeat. The Devourer of Light... whatever that is, it's drawing near, and we're sitting ducks down here.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I have to do. "Varikka!" I call out, my voice echoing through the chamber. "Swim to me! I'll help you up!"
I wade out into the water, my boots sinking into the muddy bottom with each step. The water's already up to my knees, and it's getting deeper by the second. I can feel the current tugging at my legs, trying to pull me under. Don't lose your footing, Merrin, I think to myself, gritting my teeth as I fight against the water. I reach out a hand to Varikka, trying to keep my voice steady and reassuring even though my heart's pounding in my chest. "Come on, wizard," I say, forcing a grin onto my face. "Let's get you out of this mess before you turn into a mermaid."
Please let her take my hand, I think, watching as she struggles through the water towards me. Please let us both make it out of here alive.
I glance over at Seraphine, seeing the look of desperation on her face as she clings to that rusty bar. "Seraphine!" I call out. "Get ready to pull her up once she reaches me!"
We can do this, I tell myself, even though my insides are twisting with fear. We have to do this. For Varikka, for Seraphine, for all of us.
I take another step forward, the water now up to my waist, and reach out further, trying to keep my balance as the current pushes against me. "Varikka," I say, my voice strained with effort. "You're almost there. Just a little further..."
Please let this work, I think, as I watch her swim towards me, her face a mask of exhaustion and pain. Please let us all make it out of here alive.
