Seraphine's hand trembles slightly as she holds the vial of magical ink, her fingers poised over the small pouch at her belt. The creature's bioluminescent markings continue to pulse with an otherworldly energy, drawing her in with an irresistible force. The sound of rushing water grows louder, and the ground beneath Seraphine's feet begins to shudder ominously. A nearby boulder dislodges from the tunnel ceiling, crashing down onto the creature's head with a deafening impact. The creature's tentacles flail wildly, momentarily distracting it from Seraphine as she takes a cautious step forward. The water rises faster, threatening to engulf them all, and Merrin's mace swings wildly, striking the creature's tentacles with a loud crack but failing to dislodge it from Varikka's waist. The creature's roar grows louder, and its bioluminescent markings pulse with increasing intensity, drawing Seraphine in with an irresistible force.

Merrin

Merrin · Rogue

Merrin's eyes go wide as she sees the creature's tentacles lashing out at Varikka, tightening their grip on her waist. She takes a step forward, raising her mace in a defensive posture, but then hesitates. The creature is too quick, its movements too unpredictable. If she tries to attack it directly, she might end up hurting Varikka instead.

Instead, Merrin's gaze darts around the chamber, searching for any other means of escape. Her eyes land on the ledges high above the waterline, where Seraphine is struggling to climb out of the pit trap. The wizard looks exhausted, her movements slow and uncoordinated as she clings to the slick rock face.

Merrin's mind races as she tries to come up with a plan. She could try to swim across the lake and reach Seraphine, but that would leave Varikka at the mercy of the creature. And even if she did manage to reach the ledges, there's no guarantee that they would be any safer than where they are now.

As Merrin stands there, frozen in indecision, she feels a sudden surge of anger and frustration. This is all wrong, all of it. They should never have come to this place, never have trusted that damned hermit or his riddles. But it's too late for regrets now. All they can do is survive, one moment at a time.

With a grunt of effort, Merrin lunges forward, her mace swinging down in a powerful arc aimed at the creature's head. "Let's see how you like this," she mutters through gritted teeth, her muscles tensing as she prepares to strike.

Seraphine

Seraphine · Wizard

I watch in horror as Merrin swings her mace at the creature's head, the impact sending a sickening crunch through the air. The creature shrieks, its tentacles thrashing wildly, but it doesn't let go of Varikka. Instead, it seems to tighten its grip on her, its bioluminescent markings pulsing with renewed intensity.
My heart hammers against my ribs as I see Varikka struggle against the creature's hold, her face contorted in pain and fear. She’s right at the edge of the water now, her feet scrabbling for purchase on the slick stone ledge. One wrong move could send her tumbling into the depths below.
The sound of rushing water grows louder, more frantic, and I know we have only moments before the entire chamber is submerged. I have to act fast, but what can I do? My magic is weak here, my spells useless against this ancient horror. All I have is my wits and whatever tools I can scrounge together.
My eyes dart around the chamber, landing on a pile of rubble from the collapsing tunnel walls. There, half-buried under a heap of stones, lies a rusted iron bar. It’s not much, but it might be enough to get Varikka free if I can just reach her.
I take a deep breath, steeling myself for what I have to do. "Hold on, Varikka!" I call out, my voice barely audible over the roaring water and the creature's unearthly cries. Then, with a grunt of effort, I launch myself into the air, aiming for the ledge where Varikka is trapped.
