Round 130 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin swims through the narrow passageway, she feels a presence closing in around her, and her heart races as she realizes she's not alone in the cave. A faint glow emanates from deeper within the passage, illuminating Varika, huddled against the wall. The tentacle wrapped around her waist tightens, pulling her closer to the wall. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath Merrin, and she finds herself tumbling through darkness, the water pressure building in her ears. Concrete Consequence: Merrin's vision blurs as she falls, and the last thing she sees is Varika's terrified face before the light fades to black. New Detail/Complication: As Merrin tumbles through the darkness, she feels a cold, slimy surface brush against her cheek. The sensation sends shivers down her spine, and she realizes that whatever is pulling her down, it's not just the water pressure. Immediate Pressure/Decision Point: Merrin's consciousness falters, and she loses all sense of time and space. When she comes to, she finds herself in a small, dimly lit chamber, surrounded by strange symbols etched into the walls. Varika is nowhere to be seen, but Merrin can hear her faint cries echoing from somewhere deeper in the tunnels.
I let out a gasp of relief when I see Varikka alive and relatively unharmed. The sight of her tangled in that tentacle was more than I could bear.
I swim towards her, my arms and legs moving like lead weights in the water. As I draw closer, I can see the strain in her face, the way she's fighting to free herself from the creature's grip. It's a battle I know all too well, one I've fought against the darkness that lurks in the depths of this accursed lake.
I reach out to her, my hand grasping hers, and pull with all my strength. The tentacle loosens its hold, and Varikka tumbles into my arms, the two of us clinging to each other like long-lost sisters.
We float there for a moment, our hearts pounding in tandem, the water lapping at our chests. And then, as if on cue, the ground beneath us begins to tremble, the walls of the chamber shaking as if they might crumble at any moment.
Varikka's eyes go wide with fear, and she clings to me tighter, her nails digging into my skin through the fabric of my leathers. I know we need to move, to find a way out of this place before it collapses around us, but I can't seem to make my limbs obey.
I take a deep breath, trying to calm the panic that's rising in my chest. And then, slowly, I start to swim towards the entrance of the chamber, Varikka clinging to me like a barnacle to a rock. We move as one, our bodies working in perfect sync, as if we were born to do this.
As we reach the mouth of the tunnel, I pause for a moment, my hand reaching out to touch the strange symbols etched into the wall. They pulse beneath my fingertips, warm and alive, and I know that whatever this place is, it's not like anything I've ever seen before.
But there's no time to ponder the mystery now. We have to keep moving, to find a way out of this labyrinth before it swallows us whole.
