Round 129 Transcript
Episode 1 · Episode Round 1

As Merrin swims through the narrow passageway, the bioluminescent markings on the walls pulse faster, and the whispering grows louder. She feels a presence closing in around her, and her heart races as she realizes she's not alone in the cave. A faint glow emanates from deeper within the passage, illuminating a figure huddled against the wall. It's Varika, her eyes wild with fear, a tentacle wrapped around her waist. Suddenly, the ground gives way beneath Merrin, and she finds herself tumbling through darkness, the water pressure building in her ears. The last thing she sees is Varika's terrified face before the light fades to black.
My heart is pounding as I swim through the narrow passageway, the bioluminescent markings on the walls pulsing faster and faster. The whispering grows louder, more insistent, and I feel a presence closing in around me, like a predator stalking its prey.
Suddenly, a faint glow appears ahead of me, and I realize with a start that it's coming from Varikka! She's huddled against the wall of the cave, her eyes wide with terror. A tentacle is wrapped tightly around her waist, and I can see the strain in her face as she struggles to free herself.
I swim towards her, my hand reaching for my mace, but before I can get close enough to help, the ground gives way beneath me. I feel myself tumbling through darkness, the water pressure building in my ears. My lungs burn as I hold my breath, and all I can see is Varikka's terrified face as the light fades to black.
When I finally emerge from the depths, I find myself in a small chamber, its walls glistening with the same strange fungi that lit up the underwater cave. Varikka is nowhere to be seen, but I can hear her muffled cries coming from somewhere deeper in the tunnels. I know I have to find her, to save her from whatever horrors lurk beneath the surface of this cursed lake.
I take a deep breath and dive back into the water, following the sound of Varikka's voice as it echoes through the tunnels. The passage is narrow and twisting, forcing me to navigate by touch as much as by sight. But I don't stop, even as my lungs burn with the need for air and my muscles scream in protest.
Finally, after what feels like an eternity, I emerge into a larger chamber, its walls lined with strange runes and carvings. Varikka is huddled against the far wall, her arms wrapped around her knees, the tentacle still coiled around her waist. She looks up at me as I approach, her eyes filled with relief and fear.
Merrin, thank the gods, she gasps, her voice hoarse from screaming.
